Over the past few days I’ve seen quite a few Facebook pages sharing a simple post that basically says what we’ve all been thiking….Facebook sucks!! It used to be this awesome tool to stay in the know just by clicking LIKE on your favorite pages so their posts would show up in your news feed. Well, that definitely doesn’t work anymore. Now Facebook thinks they should be in control of what you do and don’t get to read on a daily basis because they want the owners of these pages to pay a bunch of money for you to see their information. I for one got sick and tired of missing out on awesome new product announcements, contests and just all around news from the companies that I love. That’s why months ago I decided to figure out how to get control of my Facebook News Feed. I did this by creating an “INTERESTS LIST”. By creating an Interests List I was able to create a list of pages that I want to see every single status update, video and photo that they post on Facebook. Plus this got rid of all of the annoying pages that I like but don’t want to see all the time. The best part is that this is not just for AR15NEWS. You can add us to the list or leave us off. Heck, you can even make multiple lists for different topics. That’s up to you. Read below and I’ll show you very easy step by step instructions on how to set this up.
First thing I suggest doing is going to one of the pages you “LIKE” on Facebook, such as AR15NEWS.com. Once you’re there you’ll see the “LIKE” button that you pushed at one point to stay in touch with this page. Without clicking it again, HOVER over the “LIKE” button with your mouse and you’ll see a little drop down appear like in the image below. CLICK on the “Add to Interests Lists” button.
You’ll now see another drop down menu appear where you will CLICK on the “+ New List” button to create your custom list.
Now another dialog box will pop up. On this page don’t bother clicking on any of the links to the left, just CLICK “Next”.
Now you are at the page to create the lists name. You can call this whatever you want. I called mine “Daily Check” because I check it daily. type the name and CLICK “Done”.
Congrats, you have now created your Interests List…but you’re not done just yet. This list does nothing for you unless you add your important pages to the list. The easiest way is to go over to your personal timeline and scroll down until you see the spot on the right that shows all of the recent pages you’ve LIKE’d. You’ll need to CLICK on the “SEE ALL” button.
Scroll down until you start to see the pages listed. You need to HOVER over the name of the page so that a little window pops up. Don’t click on anything just yet, you need to move your cursor over and HOVER over the “LIKE” button again so that the drop down menu appears. CLICK on the “Add to Interests Lists” button again and add the page to your custom list. Keep doing this for all of the pages that you want to see all the time. I have 250 pages in my list.
Now the last part is being able to check this list. To find the link, click on your HOME button at the top right of the window. Scroll down just a bit and you’ll see it on the left side of the window under INTERESTS. Once you click on this link you can bookmark it or add it to your Links bar to make it easier to find on a regular basis.
I find that I don’t even look at my normal news feed anymore. Doing just this one single step has helped me really stay informed with what is going on in the industry and now you can do the same. Hopefully you’ve found this helpful and will add us to your “Daily Check” too.
