Paul Leitner-Wise of Leitner-Wise Manufacturing is always thinking. Even when most of us are sleeping, he’s thinking. Lately he’s been rethinking the whole concept of BUIS or “Back Up Iron Sights”. One of the thing he mentions is how the increase in use of high quality red dots has decreased the need for complicated, adjustable BUIS. I’ll admit to being guilty of building a few rifles where I didn’t even install a set of BUIS simply because the optics we use now are so reliable and the BUIS are expensive for something I probably won’t use very much. This is just some of the reasoning behind the eSights that Leitner-Wise Manufacturing will be introducing soon. The new eSights will be a simple metal flip up sight that requires no adjustments, similar to the way most Pistol sights are not adjustable. Once installed you would take these to the range, note the zero and know that from here on out you would never need to re-zero because they’re not adjustable. I think Paul is really onto something here.
Here is an excerpt from the Leitner-Wise Manufacturing blog.
So, burning the midnight oil and fueled with some of Ireland’s finest spirits, I hit upon eSights or “Emergency” sights. A Back Up Iron Sight that is cheap, simple, readily deployable, ruggedly robust, nonfuckupable and stunningly beautiful. These flip-up sights can be deployed in less than a second and because we control the manufacturing tolerances and can ensure that they mount centrally on the Picatinny rail, are completely non-adjustable. Shoot the firearm, note the zero and off you go. At the maximum range you’re ever likely to need to use this system, you’ll hit everything you are aiming at safe in the knowledge that even though you haven’t touched that firearm for months or even years the eSights will always shoot to the same zero.
Machined to our usual high standards from 7075 aluminum billet and hard coat anodized to a matte finish, the eSights are extremely low profile and lightweight yet incredibly robust. When deployed, they flip-up to the standard sight height ensuring compatibility with every other primary sight on the market yet their rail footprint is one of the smallest for back up sights.
The new Leitner-Wise Manufacturing eSights are not available just yet but being that they will be used as OEM sights on the new LWM MkVI Carbine you know they aren’t too far out from production. I’m excited to see these come to market. Be sure to checkout www.Leitner-Wise.com and follow their different social media outlets as well.
