NEW!! HexMag FDE and OD Green Mags and 10 & 15 Round Mags

Posted on October 7th, 2014 by ar15news

HexMag brand magazines have really been picking up in popularity lately. They introduced a Black AR-15 magazine a while back with a cool raised Hex pattern that actually adds some additional grip to the mag. They also feature a unique magazine identification system called “HexID” which lets you change the color of the follower and base plate retention tab for quick identification.

Today, HexMag is introducing their new FDE (Flat Dark Earth) and OD Green colored 30 round magazines with matching follower and base pad retention tab colors as well. They are also introducing their new line of “TRUE” 10/30 and 15/30 state compliant magazines. They were nice enough to send me some pre-production samples to take some pics of and let me help them introduce the new products.

People have been asking for an FDE and OD Green versions of the HexMag for a while now. The FDE and OD Green HexMags match very well with most of the popular AR furniture on the market and as with all HexMags, they come with the standard Orange guts.

With the introduction of the new FDE and OD Green colors, HexMag is also introducing matching colored internals as well as part of their HexID system. That means if you didn’t want the standard Orange follower and base pad retention tab you will be able to purchase the FDE or OD Green internals.

The last new product they are introducing today is their “TRUE” 10/30 and 15/30 state compliant magazines. Basically these are magazines that will only accept 10 or 15 rounds but look like 30 round magazines. The reason they are called “TRUE” is that they have a shorter spring and a riser inside the mag that makes them either a 10 or 15 round mag. The black risers in the photos below are just 3D printed models but give you an idea of what they will look like. HexMag designed the risers with a contour that allows you to wrap some Paracord, etc around the riser. On the 10 round model the riser is longer so I decided to try wrapping some Fishing Line and putting a little package of hooks, weights and a jig in there which fit perfectly. On the 15 round model I put a few matches, cotton balls and a striking surface inside. This works great because the spring stops at the top of the riser so there is no possibility of the items getting damaged or inhibit operation of the mag. Obviously I would not sacrifice 15-20 rounds in a mag personally just to have a little emergency bug out stash but for those who live in states with limits on magazine size, this is a pretty cool feature.
