MagPod Designing Baseplate for Magpul M3 PMAG

Right around the time that MagPod released their baseplate replacement for Gen M2 PMAGs, Magpul introduced their new Gen M3 PMAG and totally switched things up. By “switched things up” I mean they changed the base plate design which meant the MagPod would not fit on the new Gen M3 PMAG. Obviously there are a metric ton of Gen M2 PMAGs in use so its not a huge deal but it would be awesome to have the option to add a MagPod to the new Gen M3 PMAGs too.

A few days ago MagPod released an image showing off the new design which looks similar to the current MagPod but will also incorporate some sort of retaining clip. Currently they are testing out a two-piece retaining clip and a one-piece retaining clip.

Magpod Gen M3 PMAG

Sneak peek at the patent pending M3 PMAG version of MagPod; even though the M3 PMAG baseplate slides on from the rear, we decided to make our version slide in from the FRONT, which allows us to keep the patented “forward biased” foot that MagPod is known for.

No firm release date yet – we are still evaluating the retaining clip options to see which holds up better to drop testing.

I’m definitely looking forward to seeing this new MagPod version become available. You can follow along with the development of the new Gen M3 PMAG version of the MagPod  on the MagPod Facebook and Instagram accounts.
