**Updated image after press release below** Have you ever wished you could run a Rifle Length Gas System on a 16″ or shorter barrel? How about a Carbine Length Gas System on a barrel shorter than 10.3″? Typically, the longer the gas system the smoother and softer the recoil impulse will be. It’s been tried many times before and the end result has always been either an extremely oversized gas port OR scrapping the common length gas system and switching to a custom length gas system….that is until now. My buddy Garret at SPECIAL OPS TACTICAL is today introducing their PATENT PENDING Siphon AGP (Angled Gas Port) Nitride Barrels. By creating an angled gas port they were able to run longer gas systems on shorter barrels than ever before. The crazy part is they are using regular gas blocks and regular Pistol, Carbine and Rifle length gas tubes so the only custom part is the barrel. Does this have you intrigued like it does me? Tons of information is available below. Check it out!

[Press Release Begins]

In a quest to design, engineer and produce the World’s shortest length gas operated firearm barrels using industry standard high quality components Garrett Potter owner of Special Ops Tactical an Embry Riddle Aerospace grad, Philip Picardat owner of Artisan Arms /Micro MOA a Master toolmaker who has made high precision barrels for the industry’s biggest names for over a decade and his son Ryan McCormick collaborated efforts to produce an all new revolutionary line of barrels called “The SOT Siphon AGP Barrels”.  This new revolutionary line of barrels are being produced by Artisan Arms and will be exclusively sold by Special Ops Tactical.  We have developed and manufactured the first and only barrels ever to feature a “rearward” angled gas port in order to increase dwell time and gas pressure enabling us to create the shortest “Pistol length, Carbine length, Midlength, Intermediate and Rifle length barrels in the World while utilizing non-proprietary “gas tubes and gas blocks” by way of our all new “Siphon AGP Barrels” that feature our “Rearward” angled gas port.   Until now no other company in the world has produced a barrel that features a “Rearward” angled gas port. “Meaning from the top of the barrel where the port is initially drilled with the gas port angling rearward back toward the “barrel extension” / rear of the barrel in order to gain dwell time and gas pressure”.  PATENT PENDING)

Special Ops Tactical Siphon AGP Nitride Barrel 1

Traditionally and to date all barrels are drilled with a straight 90 degree  gas port and require about 1.5” Inches of barrel in front of the gas port in order for a barrel to function properly.  Otherwise you end up with a gas port so large that in order to cycle the system that the bolt carrier group is violently slung back by the over gassed port “vastly” outside the area of “normal” operation that even a muzzle brake is not able to overcome the extreme over gassing of the enlarged straight port which leads into several negatives being accuracy, recoil, wear and tear and multiple reliability issues; Not to mention the extreme deafening sound when using a muzzle brake on a short barrel.   Our new “Siphon AGP Barrels” cycle the gas system properly with a much smaller gas port allowing for correct, positive and ultra-reliable function as well as increased recoil reduction “because of the smaller port “which provides much better recoil control as well as accuracy that is just NOT possible with all other manufacturers’ barrels to date!

Our new revolutionary design allows our barrels to be “the shortest” possible length while using  standard gas tubes, standard gas blocks as well as greatly reduced sizes in gas ports because of their Patent Pending “rearward” angled siphon gas ports.  Our new “Siphon Angled Gas Port” is so much smaller than traditionally possible generally speaking the Siphon AGP gas port sizes are 10 to 20 thousandths smaller than their straight port counter parts.  The new Siphon AGP barrels have anywhere from a 8% up to 20% less felt recoil over their straight 90 degree port counterparts depending on specific barrel length, accomplished without the aid of a muzzle brake or any other recoil reducing device!  When a muzzle brake is implemented these barrels are incredibly smooth!

We like to push the limits of what is possible just to see what can achieved.  Designing and building standard components is still enjoyable but we thrive on designing and manufacturing tomorrow’s products!

Throughout this endeavor we knew that there had to be a few key features:

#1. The Barrels must use a standard length gas tubes not custom or proprietary.

#2. The Barrels must use a standard diameter and height gas blocks not custom or proprietary.

#3. The Barrels must be reliable enough to be employed by LEO, Military application, as well as contracted applications.

From our extensive testing we have found extremely promising results that the Siphon AGP barrels have much less of a recoil impulse than their traditional “Straight Gas Port” counterparts.  Generally speaking  8% up to a 20% reduction as compared to their straight port counterparts partially due to the reduced gas port size but is also associated with being able to run a longer gas tube not previously possible with traditional straight port barrels but also because the gas flow has one less 90 degree change in direction so makes the flow of gasses smoother throughout the entire system.

The profile, shape and weight of these new barrels was also very important to us.  We chose to start with a medium contour custom profile on this new line of barrels because of their crossover ability of being able to deliver excellent accuracy but in a more balanced refined lighter weight profile than a traditional government profile as well in efforts to help overcome barrel flex and whip.

Many manufacturers across the board intentionally over gas their barrels in order to ensure their barrels cycle on all types of ammo being hot or light loads.  This causes excessive wear and tear on the entire system and its parts as well as causing unwanted excessive recoil.   We make sure our barrels are not over gassed.  I see and hear so many people both customers as well as others in the industry state or think that a specific gas port size for a particular barrel length and or profile will be “universal” the same or similar to every barrel made across the board; this is NOT the case!  The gas port size has a “direct” relationship to the length of barrel and the Inner diameter of a barrels bore and the slightest change or difference in bore diameter will determine the proper gas port size. (Even with barrels of the same length and caliber all bores are not the exact same size.)

After extensive testing I have realized we have truly designed and manufactured “unobtainium”.  This is the only actual dissipator barrel system.  The new guns “That feature our SOT AGP Siphon Barrels” are truly very special and unique.  They will become a staple in the industry because of their unparalleled smoothness and reduction in recoil that can be applied to Military, Law Enforcement, Contractors and recreational shooters alike.  Our shortest 5” Inch AGP Siphon barrel offers a super compact firearm that is lightweight and extremely agile with such a major gain in recoil reduction over its 7.5 inch straight gas port counterpart, as well as being able to have extreme muzzle control in both semi and full auto modes of firing.  To the shooter the guns that feature our SOT AGP Siphon barrels are so much smoother than any other AR15 platform weapon in or near its category and will absolutely be a major game changer for the industry and shooters alike.  As soon as people get a chance to fire this barrel they will instantly feel and see that this is truly a revolutionary product!

Special Ops Tactical will be first releasing (5.56 NATO Caliber Siphon AGP Barrels in (5”Inch Pistol Length Gas),( 9”Inch Carbine Length Gas), (14”Inch Rifle Length Gas) and (16.01”Inch Rifle Length Gas), as well as several lines of our new Patent Pending SOT Siphon AGP barrels in multiple lengths and calibers including (5.56, 300BLKOUT, 7.62×51, 6.5 Creedmoor) as well as Complete Uppers and Rifles and will continue to add more lengths and calibers in the future so please stay tuned!

The image below better shows the “rearward” angle of the gas port. Unlike some older AKs and a few other AR manufacturers that have made angled gas ports drilled towards the muzzle end of the barrel, the SOT Siphon AGP barrels angle “rearward” towards the barrel extension.

Phase 5 Weapon Systems recently completed their lineup of FATman and littleBOY Hex Brakes with the addition of the 9mm/7.62×39/6.8 model for both FATman (dual chamber) and littleBOY (single chamber) brakes with 1/2×36 threads. This now brings the total to 6 different muzzle brakes in the Hex Brake series including the 5.56/.223 with 1/2×28 threads & 7.62×51/.308/300BLK with 5/8×24 threads for FATman and littleBOY models as well.

I have all except for the 9mm model right now and they are actually a very cool muzzle brake. They are on the larger side but at the same time they have a collar that covers a bit of the end of the barrel as you thread them on. They have a pretty stout look too. These are definitely work taking a look at if you’re in the market for a new muzzle device.

Juggernaut Tactical just introduced their new Ultimate Jig. There are tons of jigs out there for machining 80% lower receivers. For the most part all of them are specifically for either the AR-15 or AR-1o lowers and not both. The new Ultimate Jig sets itself apart by accommodating both AR-15 AND AR-1o lower receivers from not just Juggernaut Tactical but also most lowers available on the market. It also has Press Fit Stainless Steel Drill Bushings, an alignment tool to keep your lower in the perfect spot and a depth gauge for the drill bits.

Juggernaut Tactical Ultimate 80 percent lower Machining Jig 1

After considering everybody’s feedback regarding jigs, we were able to develop our patent pending Ultimate Jig. With this jig, you are now able to build both AR-10 and AR-15 80% lowers. Our alignment tool that ensures the pocket is always centered in combination with our oversized top plates allows for very smooth and consistent finishing. Pair that with our press fit stainless steel drill bushings and included depth gauge, you will have yourself the perfect tool to finish any top-tier AR rifle. The only thing necessary to get your project going is a drill press or a hand drill and router; everything else provided in your Ultimate Jig Kit.

Overall this seems to be a very well thought out machining jig. The fact that it works for both AR-15 and AR-10 80% lowers is pretty awesome. Being that it works with both AR-15 and AR-10 lowers I was expecting to see a huge price tag on it but was very happy to see it is priced right in line or less than many of the comparable machining jigs on the market that only work with one or the other. If you’re an 80% DIY’er you definitely need to at least give the new Juggernaut Tactical Ultimate Jig a look.

The Ultimate Jig can be purchased directly from Juggernaut Tactical at www.JTactical.com.

When I go to the range I usually go by myself so I can just do my thing. After spending some time by myself at the range over the weekend and having to reload my mags in the cold, with gloves on, etc. it was funny to run across this new product online yesterday. Plate Design has been making speed loaders for a while and even make them for the AK as well. What I like about their Gen2 ACEM AR/M4 Speed Loader is that it is MultiCaliber. Instead of just being designed to work with .223/5.56 it will work with a wide variety of the most popular AR calibers which includes .223/5.56, 300 Blackout, 6.8 SPC, 6.5 Grendel, 5.45×39 and 7.62×39 rounds. That’s pretty impressive. I myself shoot 5.56, 300BLK, 5.45×39 and 7.62×39 all the time through my ARs so this definitely interests me.

–  Rounds: (capacity)
–  5.56 x 45mm NATO/.223 Remington (30)
–  300 Blackout (30)
–  6.8 SPC (25)
–  6.5 Grendel (25)
–  5.45×39 (30)
–  7.62×39 (25)

I definitely think I am going to pick one of these up to give it a try. They are just $59.95 which seems totally worth it to save me the time and hassle of loading mags one bullet at a time, especially now that it works with multiple different rounds that I use often. If you’re interested in one yourself, you can get more information and purchase on for yourself at www.Plate-Design.com.

ODIN Works just announced they will be doing something pretty cool for those looking to build a 6.5 Grendel AR. Now when you purchase one of their 6.5 Grendel Barrels you will automatically get a free Nitride BCG and a Gas Block. This eliminates one of the headaches with building alternate caliber ARs which is finding a good BCG and Bolt to go with that caliber.

ODIN Works 6.5 Grendel Barrel with BCG and Gas Block

ODIN Works offers both an 18″ and 20″ 6.5 Grendel barrel. Their barrels are pretty well known for being very accurate while NOT being extremely expensive. If you are looking for a great jump start on your 6.5 Grendel build, this is it and at a great price. Take a look at www.ODINWorks.com.
