An Updated Look At The Battle Arms Sub 4-Pound AR Project

Posted on September 10th, 2014 by ar15news

A while back I showed you guys a sneak peek at the OIP Lightweight (sub 4-pound) rifle that Battle Arms Development has been working on. At that time the OIP Rifle was in the very early prototype stages but just yesterday Battle Arms Development release a picture of Upper, Lower and Butt Stock that will be used on the new OIP Lightweight Rifle. The OIP Lightweight Rifle will be sold exclusively through Bentwood Gunsmithing. Battle Arms Development will be offering a slightly different version of the Lightweight Components for us DIY AR builders. For instance, according to Battle Arms Development, the Battle Arms version of the lower will have solid sides in the mag well but the recess pockets will be there. You can see the photo and details below. For more information regarding this new project be sure to follow the Battle Arms Development Facebook page

Battle Arms Development OIP Lightweight Rifle Components

Another sneak peek at the OIP Lightweight Upper, Lower, and Butt Stock in a special natural Type III hard anodize color. There are some natural fades from the anodizing process. The color also changes pending on the lighting condition and viewing angle from bronze to FDE to OD Green, Grey, etc. I think we will name it the Chameleon. Bentwood Gunsmithing is going to keep all the finish natural (no dyes) for the raw look.

NEW!! Badrock Tactical 12″ & 15″ Free Float KeyMod Rail

Posted on September 8th, 2014 by ar15news

Badrock Tactical has just introduced their new 12″ and 15″ Free Float KeyMod rails. I’ve recently became aware of and started working with Badrock Tactical and they really seem to build some sweet rifles. Now add these awesome rails to the lineup and they’ve really got you covered. These new rails have KeyMod slots at the 3, 6 and 9 o’clock spots as well as at the 45 degree angles as well, plus there are short picatinny rail sections up front on the sides of the rail. As mentioned, they are being offered in 12″ and 15″ length models. Both models will be available in Black, Gray, Camo, Pink Type III Hard Coat Anodize as well as a Raw unfinished version for you DIY’ers. These rails are light on weight but are also light on your wallet coming in at just $165 for the 12″ and just $175 for the 15″. Check out the pics and details below.

We are pleased to introduce the Badrock Tactical AR 15 Platform Free Float Hand Guard. As with all of our products, they are manufactured under some of the tightest quality and tolerance metrics in the industry using aircraft grade 6061 T6 billet aluminum for the hand guard and 7075 T6 for the barrel nut. These units feature Keymod slots at the standard 3, 6 and 9 O’Clock positions as well as Keymod on the 45 degree angle surfaces for maximum functionality and flexibility for whatever purpose your rifle will serve. In addition to the Keymod slots (which all double as standard Quick Detach QD) you will find traditional QD holes mounted at 3 and 9 O’Clock at the base of the hand guard and 1913 Picatinny Mil-Spec Rails machined in at 3 and 9 O’Clock at the muzzle end of the hand guard. Our unique design allows for contoured fit for the operator’s hand that is easy to grip and comfortable to shoot. These will be offered in Type III Hard Anodize in Black, Grey, Camo, Pink and Clear. We will initially offer these in 12” and 15”, with a 9” version on the horizon.

Rainier Arms Forged A-DAC Lowers Now Available for Purchase

Posted on September 8th, 2014 by ar15news

Rainier Arms has officially released their new A-DAC Forged Lowers which means I will be buying one very soon. The A-DAC function is a right-hand bolt catch (integrated into the magazine release button). The A-DAC allows you to hold the magazine release button in (dropping the mag if one is inserted), pull the charging handle to the rear and lock the bolt back all at the same time. There are only a couple other lowers that offer this feature and the Rainier Arms lower is the newest and most affordable of them all.

Rainier Arms Forged A-DAC Lower 1Rainier Arms Forged A-DAC Lower 1

As I’ve mentioned in the past, I could care less about an ambi Bolt RELEASE. I want an ambi Bolt HOLD to help with increasing the speed of clearing malfunctions, etc. There really isn’t any other reason for you to manually hold the bolt open unless you’re clearing a malfunction or inspecting the weapon which in both cases you will want to remove the magazine. The A-DAC system is the perfect solution. Watch the following video that shows how the A-DAC system works.

The original Forged lower will still be available, if you don’t want or need this feature. The Mountain logo has also been added to the left side of the receiver.

Rainier Arms Forged A-DAC Lower 1Rainier Arms Forged A-DAC Lower 1

Benefits:
- Removes six steps from the Manual of Arms when clearing a double feed malfunction.
– The device adds the ability to use the right hand to lock the bolt to the rear while still leaving you the option of using the standard left hand method.
– Greatly reduces the amount of time needed to clear a malfunction.
– Unlike all other devices there is no need to learn to find a new location for your trigger finger as one experienced with the weapon already instinctively makes contact with the magazine release button first to clear any remedial action malfunction.

Trouble free simple design:
- Can be field stripped with no tools.
– Only one additional part is required and is completely internal to the receiver.
– There are no screws to come loose.
– There is no weight added to the bolt catch that could cause it not to lock open on the last round like other devices which bolt on.
– Nothing to snag on clothes or other gear.

Safety:
- Virtually eliminates the possibility of the user’s finger unintentionally entering the trigger guard while locking the bolt to the rear.
– When used, makes it impossible to inadvertently lock back the bolt with a loaded magazine left in the receiver. This prevents the possibility of chambering a round in the event the rifle is bumped causing the bolt to drop.
– Nothing to accidentally trip the bolt release when reloading or clearing a malfunction as it is only a bolt catch.
– Allows you to keep a firm grip of fire control – making it much easier to keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction when locking the bolt to the rear.
– Nothing obstructing any portion of the trigger guard – preventing any issue with snagging a gloved hand.

The all new Rainier Arms Forged A-DAC lower is available for purchase now at www.RainierArms.com.

NEW!! Umbrella Corporation Gen2 Premium Bolt Carrier Group

Posted on September 3rd, 2014 by ar15news

Umbrella Corporation Weapons Research Group recently released their new Premium Bolt Carrier Group and man this thing is sweet. As I’ve explained this BCG to many people already, its basically a “No Corners Cut” BCG. Every single part of the BCG production was scrutinized to make sure this BCG is as high quality as it gets. I was able to get my hands on one and wanted to take some pictures of it and share my initial review of the UCWRG Gen 2 BCG with you guys. That way you could make an educated decision as to whether this was the right BCG for you.

Umbrella Corp WRG Premium BCG 2

Not only does it feature the awesome Umbrella logo but the fit and finish is perfect. At first glance you wouldn’t think the coating is Phosphate because its much smoother than what is required to meet Mil Spec. They also went above and beyond using the best materials possible such as the 4340 Extractor (everyone else uses 4140; both are allowed by the M4 data package but since 4140 is less costly, it always gets the nod), using Carpenter Technology No. 158 gun quality aerospace steel alloy, etc. They also proof fire each BCG, clean and inspect to make sure every one is perfect before it goes out the door.

Umbrella Corp WRG Premium BCG 1

Umbrella Corp WRG Premium BCG 3

Aside from the quality of the BCG, there is another aspect of it…which is that it looks really awesome. Whether you have UCWRG receivers for your rifle or not, seeing the Umbrella logo through the ejection port just looks cool. Of course if you do happen to be lucky enough to have some UCWRG receivers then this BCG will really tie everything together.

Umbrella Corp WRG Premium BCG 4

Umbrella Corp WRG Premium BCG 5

Umbrella Corp WRG Premium BCG 6

Overall, I think the UCWRG Premium Bolt Carrier Group is the perfect upgrade for someone who wants only the best in their rifle. I’m really excited to put some rounds down range with this BCG. Once I’ve had some time to get a good round count with the rifle shown below, I will come back and do another writeup to let you know about my experience with it. At this point I would definitely recommend the UCWRG BCG to anyone. Having such a detailed list of components/features (listed below) makes it easy to see why this BCG would be a no-brainer. Not to mention at the introductory price of just $165 it is not much more than the “suspect quality” BCG’s I see floating around everywhere. If you want one for yourself, they are in-stock now at www.UCWRG.com.

Additional Details from the UCWRG website

Umbrella Corporation AR-15 Bolt Carrier Groups are our take on a premium, no snake oil, combat ready BCG. Each and every bolt is proof fired, ultrasonically cleaned, tested via magnetic particle inspection (MPI), and once certified, parkerized for corrosion protection and lube retention. In keeping with a superior product, we don’t utilize a Crane O-Ring as a crutch to increase extractor tension. Instead, our bolts are built with a mil-spec black insert coupled with a Tactical Springs 5-coil high load extractor spring that’s compatible with all DI gas system lengths. It’s rated for 150K+ cycles to outlast your rifle barrel many times over. We have improved on the finish requirement of the TDP and have chosen the best materials of those allowed per spec, not the lowest cost like nearly all of our competitors. This second gen product is manufactured to the highest standards with an unconditional guarantee against material defect and manufacturing failure. We challenge you to compare our Bolt Carrier Group specs against the competition. Beyond using Carpenter’s 158 alloy for the bolt, ask what alloy they use for their extractors, Extractor pins, ejectors, and whether their cam pins have a solid film lube per TDP. You will likely find they don’t advertise any of these specifications.  And don’t fall for the 9310 alloy bolt substitute; it is a less expensive, inferior alloy for this application. Bought into the hype and don’t believe us? Ask Carpenter Tech; they manufacture both materials and will without hesitation tell you 158 is the proper, superior alloy. The draw for 9310 is that it’s a decent material when heat treated properly though since there’s no spec, how do you know what “proper” might be for this application? It’s less costly, and you don’t have to buy mill run quantities for manufacturing. It’s the little things that make the real difference and we cut no corners with our Bolt Carrier Groups. as before, this initial first release is offered with a discount below our suggested retail pricing. Assembly/function check by a qualified Armorer is required.

NEW!! Fortis Mfg Releases New Aimpoint Mount and Light Mount

Posted on August 28th, 2014 by ar15news

Fortis Manufacturing quietly introduced two new products this week. One is a new version of their awesome F-1 Optics Mount (Aimpoint T-1/H-1 Mount) and the other is a new KeyMod Light Mount. I’ve included pics and details for both new products below.

The Fortis Manufacturing F-1 Optics Mount is one of the cooler looking mounts designed for the Aimpoint T-1/H-1 optic and is now being offered in an Absolute Co-Witness mount height. People have always been asking for an Absolute Co-Witness version of the F-1 Optics Mount which was a Lower 1/3 Co-Witness Mount. Lower 1/3 Co-Witness and Absolute Co-Witness refer to where your Iron Sights line up in relation to the Red Dot. A Lower 1/3 Co-Witness mount is a bit taller so your Iron Sights will be in the lower portion of your optic with the Red Dot just above. With an Absolute Co-Witness mount your Red Dot and Iron Sight will line up together. Having an Absolute Co-Witness mount has its advantages such as being able to sight in your rifle with just your Iron Sights and then line your Red Dot up with them for quick sight-in.

Fortis Mfg also just introduced a new KeyMod Light Mount. This light mount is designed to fit most flashlights with a 1″ body such as the Elzetta Design lights, most SureFire lights, etc. As I mentioned, this is a KeyMod mount and will work with any KeyMod rail. The design of this light mount pushes the position of the flashlight up and forward which makes it much easier to activate the light without having to move your support hand much and also gives you a bit more room on the rail for your hands or other accessories.

Fortis Mfg prides themselves on producing American Made, high quality, affordable AR-15 accessories and components and these products are exactly that. Both products are available for purchase now at the links I’ve supplied below.

NEW!! Rogue American Apparel Logo’d B5 SOPMOD Stock

Posted on August 27th, 2014 by ar15news

I think its pretty apparent that I am an equal opportunity rifle stock owner but when it comes to naming a favorite, the B5 Systems Enhanced SOPMOD stock is right up at the top. In the words of Robbie Hart in the Wedding Singer, “I’m a big fan of B5 Systems Stocks. I like them, I use them, I have a few. I keep them on some rifles in my safe. I’d like to put more in that safe.” At least that’s how I remember it. :)

My buddy Wes over at Rogue American Apparel told me about their own logo’d version of the B5 Systems Enhanced SOPMOD stock. Usually RAA focuses on making some awesome Warrior inspired T-shirts, Hats and Patches with a portion of the sales being donated to the Brother’s in Arms Foundation. With this stock, 10% of the proceeds from each stock will be donated to The Raider Project which connects MARSOC/USMC veterans with other veterans to help them transition smoothly, peacefully, successfully into the private sector.

B5 Systems RAA SOPMOD Stock

This is an awesome cause to support. If you are like me and a big fan of both B5 Systems and RAA, its a no brainer to go with this awesome RAA Logo’d SOPMOD stock. Check them out at www.RogueAmericanApparel.com.

556 Tactical SKR (Stryke KeyMod Rail) Sale

Posted on August 25th, 2014 by ar15news

Our friends over at 556 Tactical are having a sale on their SKR (Stryke KeyMod Rail). Recently I had the opportunity to shoot some photos of these rails and they are sweet. 556 Tactical and PWS partnered up together on this rail and gave it the awesome angled cut at the end to go along with the other rails that 556 Tactical has in their lineup. Out of all of them, this is probably my favorite. The SKR is available in both a 12.1″ and 15″ length and both models are on sale for a limited time. If you’ve been looking for a high quality rail system for your new build or just want to upgrade an older rifle, this is a great option. Check them out for yourself at www.556Tactical.com.
