Umbrella Corp Weapons Research Group Teases New Billet Set

Posted on September 6th, 2016 by ar15news

We received an email from UCWRG (Umbrella Corporation Weapons Research Group) the other day that had some good intel in it and wanted to share it with anyone who didn’t receive the email as well.

If you resisted the urge to immediately click over and buy one of the UCWRG Raptor charging handles that were back in-stock and kept reading they included some good info on what changes are going on at UCWRG right now. New UCWRG BCGs will be released soon and they continue to have an issue with getting forgings that are up to their high quality standards.

If you kept reading past that you get to what we all are interested in…UCWRG BILLET!! I am fortunate to own one of the very first UCWRG billet ambi lowers ever made and love it (its featured in a  lot of my SBR photos). UCWRG has never been able to keep up with demand for their products but it appears they may have figured out some of their production dilemmas as they are about to release a NEW billet lower and drumroll….billet upper. Photos and details below.

UCWRG billet lower v2UCWRG Billet Upper

We have a new billet lower design complete and we’re excited to get them out there. While we’d like to have receivers ready before the election, we’re pushing to have them finished before Christmas. Timelines can change, especially after November. Like our first billet design these will include the ADAC for right side bolt catch. We’ve made a few improvements to this lower; the magwell bevel is deeper and by popular request we’ve added a tension screw. You might also notice we’ve switched the logo from the 3D version to our standard deep laser engraved umbrella. These lower receivers still feature our unique magwell geometry and are WEDM cut for an even smoother finish. Billet uppers will follow soon after the lowers are released to complete the pair.

So, if you’ve wanted to get on the UCWRG train, your chance might be coming sooner than you realize. I hope this means good things going forward for UCWRG and they do make a phenomenal product. Getting it out to the consumers is the key. You can check out all of the UCWRG products at www.UCWRG.com.

**NEW** Phase 5 Tactical Sloped Quick Disconnect End Plate

Posted on September 6th, 2016 by ar15news

Pretty sure I have a QD End Plate on just about every rifle I’ve ever built but they all require you to get your big (sometimes gloved) hands into this tiny area to attach/detach the QD sling swivel. The new Sloped Quick Disconnect End Plate (SQD-EP) addresses that issue and gives you a nice ambi QD sling mount. It also covers up some of the castle nut for a cleaner look. I will definitely pick one of these up for my next build and see how it goes. Looks like a great design. Read more about it and check out the pics below.

 P5T SQD-EPP5T SQD-EP 3

The Phase 5 Sloped Quick Disconnect End Plate (SQD-EP) was designed to replace the standard AR15/M4 carbine end plate. While still meeting the requirements of the original design, the SQD-EP is lighter and QD Swivel compatible.

PROUDLY MADE IN THE USA FROM USA RAW BILLET 7075-T6 ALUMINUM.

– Compatible with mil-spec carbine reciever extensions, commercial-spec reciever extensions, and all Phase 5 Pistol Buffer Tubes on nearly all AR15/M4/.308 AR Variant lower recievers.
– Lightweight and sturdy 7075-T6 billet aluminum construction is about 80% stronger than 6061-T6 aluminum.
– Uses a standard AR15/M4 carbine Lower reciever extension castle nut (not included).
– Accepts all push button QD swivels and QD slings.
– QD mount is at a 30 Degree angle from the lower reciever to allow a 360 Degree rotation for ambidextrious use.
– Lighter than the standard stamped steel reciever extention end plate (0.39 oz vs 0.48 oz.

The SQD-EP is in-stock and shipping now. Normally I would just link to the manufacturer  (Phase5WSI.com) for new product announcements but I also just noticed that these are available at an intro price at www.RainierArms.com now through 9/15/16.

Glock Ambi Mag Release Designed for Right Handed Shooters

Posted on July 18th, 2016 by ar15news

I’ve always shot my Glocks a lot but ever since I built my Quarter Circle 10 9mm AR I’ve been shooting them even more. Recently I had the opportunity to add the Rainier Arms MARS (Magazine Advanced Release System) ambi mag release in my G17. If you’re thinking….”I shoot right handed so I don’t need an ambi mag release” keep reading.

Rainier Arms MARS ambi mag release glock 1

Rainier Arms MARS ambi mag release glock

Typically ambi controls are designed to benefit left hand shooters but this ambi mag release was actually designed to help right hand shooters. On a Glock, many right handed shooters have to break their grip to reach their thumb far enough to activate the standard mag release consistently. Left handed Glock shooters typically use their Index or Middle finger to use the mag release which is actually better as it does not require that you change your grip on the gun.

The MARS fixes this by adding an ambi mag release on the right side so right handed shooters can now use their Index or Middle finger to release the magazine. They have also extended the mag release button on the left side making it even easier for left handed shooters to access with their Index or Middle finger.

Whether you shoot predominantly Left OR Right hand doesn’t matter with the Rainier Arms MARS. Its a great upgrade for any Glock pistol shooter and has functioned flawlessly in my G17. Rainier Arms has just made these available for sale on their website and are offering them at an introductory price. Regular price is $66.45 but the Intro Price is just $59.95. If you happen to be a Rainier Arms APEX member, your price is just $49.95. Head on over to www.RainierArms.com to snag one at the intro pricing.

$15 3D-Printed Scope Throw Levers

Posted on April 3rd, 2016 by ar15news

We always keep our eye out for content that our readers will appreciate. It doesn’t have to be the most ground breaking new product or accessory. Some times manufacturers will send us information and ask us to post it on our site, other times we happen to run across a new product, special deal or a combination of the two that we think you guys should know about. This is the case with the MK Machining 3D-Printed Scope Throw Levers.

On Saturday I was relaxing after a long week, scrolling through some groups on Facebook when I ran across a post for 3d-printed scope throw levers for just $15. Usually a good throw lever usually runs about $60 so this kind of intrigued me. Throw Levers are designed to help you adjust the magnification on  your scope easier and quicker.

MK Machining 3d-printed scope throw lever 1

MK Machining 3d-printed scope throw lever 1

My first thought was “How strong are these and are they gonna break when I try to use it?”. From what I read the levers are 3D printed from a filament called PETG which is a strong polymer type material that has a little bit of flex to it. A 4-40 bolt is used to tighten into a pressed in threaded brass insert. One of the things this company has stated is that the material is flexible without yielding but if you buy one and are not happy with the strength of the product they will refund the purchase price and even the shipping.

At just $15 and with a guarantee like that there doesn’t seem to much of a risk to trying these out. I have 5 Vortex scopes that I’ll be ordering some of these for and wanted to tell you guys so you can do the same if you’re interested.

They have a ton of models available such as Vortex Viper, Vortex Strike Eagle, Nightforce NXS, Leupold Mark 6, Mark 8, Vortex Razor Gen II, Leupold Mark AR, Bushnell AR Drop Zone, and Kahles i just to name a few. If they don’t have a model for the scope you own they offer a free Throw Lever to anyone who will ship them their scope for a few weeks so they can create the lever.

As I mentioned, these 3D-Printed Scope Throw Levers are just $15. You can check out all of the available models at www.MKMachining.com.

Photos of the new Agency Arms “CLASSIFIED” Rifle

Posted on January 27th, 2016 by ar15news

At SHOT Show 2016, Agency Arms announced a partnership between themselves and PWS (Primary Weapon Systems) to offer the Agency Arms Project CLASSIFIED DI rifle. I got permission to share the following photos that as far as I know have not been fully published yet. Aaron Cowan of Sage Dynamics and Agency Arms said this regarding the new rifle…

“Everybody knows there’s ARs all over the place. Why would you choose one brand over another brand? Quality is quality. But there are features on the AR platform that can be improved and when people get together and start thinking about them they find new ways to do things that some people just didn’t think of before. Some times its a little fix, some times its something potentially revolutionary. Not gonna use the word game changer but what I will say is this rifle brings a lot of value added products to the platform that are gonna be something that you might prefer in a rifle system if you’re looking for a new one.” – Aaron Cowan, Sage Dynamics

Geissele’s Sneak Peek Christmas Present

Posted on December 29th, 2015 by ar15news

In case you missed it, just before Christmas Geissele Automatics gave AR owners all over the country a Christmas present of sorts by releasing a sneak peek at a couple of new products that will be coming soon. As you may already know, Geissele has been working on a new Scope Mount for a DOD (Department of Defense) customer since early 2015 and will be available for consumer purchase in 2016.

Geissele Automatics Scope Mount 1Photo by Johnny Danger

As if Geissele Scope Mounts weren’t good enough, just prior to Christmas they released an image that had every AR owners mouth watering. In the image (see below) there was a sneak peek at the new Geissele Ambi Charging Handle and Geissele T1/T2 micro red dot mount. The Ambi Charging Handle looks like it has a nice curve to the handles which should help you really get a good grip on it for ease of use and the T1/T2 mount looks low profile but stout.

Another new product coming soon is a new scope mount for the 50 BMG rifle. As you can imagine, due to recoil you can’t just use any old scope mount on a 50 BMG. The new Geissele 50 BMG Scope Mount will feature a 3 bolt design for the mount to rifle interface as well as a 3 bolt design for the scope ring caps to clamp on and hold the optic nice and tight over a larger surface area. If you own a 50 BMG rifle, this might be something to look into!

Geissele Automatics Scope Mount 3

As you can see, Geissele isn’t just sitting around happy to be making Triggers and Rails. They are working continually to add more and more to their lineup all the time. Now if we could just talk Bill into making complete rifles we would be all set. 🙂 For more information on Geissele product, head on over to www.Geissele.com.
