If you’ve ever owned a Pistol Caliber AR you know very well that fine tuning them is all about the buffer system as most Pistol Caliber ARs are blowback so there is no gas block or gas tube at all to adjust. However, fine tuning them is a must. I was absolutely surprised by the amount of felt recoil the first time I shot my 9mm PCC. Pistol Caliber Carbines are known for breaking a Bolt Catch and increasing internal wear if you don’t figure out how to slow down the Bolt. Most people end up guessing and buying a heavy buffer of any number of ounces or will buy a number of them and try them all (that’s what I did LoL). Quarter Circle 10, the industry leader and standard for Pistol Caliber ARs, has just introduced their new Adjustable Pistol Buffer Assembly which looks like a real winner.

Pantheon Arms is well known for their awesome upgrades to the Dolos Quick Change Barrel System and now they’ve introduced a brand new product called the Kentri Short Buffer System for AR-15s that will work with both rifle caliber and pistol caliber builds. This should be perfect for one of those super compact AR Pistol “Truck Gun” “Backpack Gun” Builds.

Dolos KENTRI AR15 Short Buffer System

The new Kentri Short Buffer System is just 3.5″ long and features a floating guide rod to keep everything aligned in the buffer, doesn’t require a proprietary BCG,  supports the SB Tactical Braces and Shockwave Blade and  at just $55 is less than 1/3 the price of most other Short Buffer Systems on the market.

So far, after a quick Google search, it looks like Vision Defense LLC (they’re the ones who tagged me on Instagram about this new product) is the only company to have these instock  and listed on their website so you might want to check them out. They’re listed at $55.

You can also follow Pantheon Arms on Instagram and Facebook and check out their website www.PantheonArms.com.

Ever since I SBR’d my QC10 9mm AR I have wanted to put a Battle Arms VERT PDW Stock on it. I have the VERT PDW Stock on one of my other SBR’s and it truly is one of the only PDW stocks that I feel can be used on just about any AR, even full size rifles because of its integrated cheek rest. The only holdback was that the standard buffer. While it works great with 5.56 and 300BLK, it wasn’t designed to work with a 9mm AR’s. While similar to a standard AR, a 9mm AR is definitely a fickle beast. After some months of testing, fine tuning and tweaking, Battle Arms is ready to release their new 9mm Buffer for the VERT PDW Stock.

Battle Arms 9mm VERT PDW Stock 1

The new Battle Arms 9mm Buffer weighs 5.7 ounces which is a little lighter than you might expect to run on your 9mm AR (I have run as high as 10 ounce buffers) but what makes this different and  is their patented, Recoil Reducing, Dual Spring Buffer Design which will help soften the recoil impulse and smooth things out considerably.

Battle Arms 9mm VERT PDW Stock 2

The BAD VERT 9mm PDW Buffer will be sold as an upgrade item for those of us who already have a VERT stock in hand and will also available as a complete 9mm VERT PDW Stock System as well.

Battle Arms 9mm VERT PDW Stock 3Battle Arms 9mm VERT PDW Stock 4

No matter how you slice it, this is an awesome upgrade to one of, if not THE best PDW stocks on the market. I have a BAD VERT PDW Stock that has been waiting for this day and soon will get put to work on the 9mm QC10 SBR. You can buy the buffer or the complete stock system at the links below. If you snag one, make sure you tag us in your pics on Facebook and Instagram so we can see what you guys are all running.

Battle Arms Development 9mm Buffer for VERT PDW Stock

Battle Arms Development 9mm Complete VERT PDW Stock System

Battle Arms Development recently introduced their new Ultra Compact Pistol Sabertube + Vert Buffer System combo which is the latest addition to their Sabertube line up. Basically what you have here is the Buffer System from BAD’s VERT PDW stock but this version is for an AR Pistol. Anymore everyone has a super short AR Pistol and at just 4.75″ long, the Ultra Compact Pistol Sabertube + Vert Buffer System seems like the perfect buffer system for those pistol builds.

Battle Arms Ultra Compact Pistol Saber Tube VERT Buffe1

Contrary to popular belief, not everyone has to shoulder their AR Pistols. 😉 I’m picturing this being an awesome setup to run with a single point sling similar to how an MP5K is fired while putting forward pressure on the sling to stabilize the firearm. The Ultra Compact Pistol Sabertube + Vert Buffer System comes complete with the 4.75″ Saber Tube, Buffer Spring and VERT buffer and is now available at www.BattleArmsDevelopment.com.

A few weeks ago we introduced you guys to the new Stealth Recoil Spring from Armaspec. The Stealth Recoil Spring is a drop-in replacement for your standard AR Buffer and Buffer Spring that will make the action quieter and smoother. The idea is not new but the amazing pricing is! We knew these would be coming out soon but didn’t know where until today. Rainier Arms has the exclusive offering of the SRS-Carbine Stealth Recoil Spring which is equivalent to a 3.3oz buffer and carbine spring. The intro price is just $64.95 which is too good of a deal to pass up. Get yours now at www.RainierArms.com.

Armaspec introduced a few new products this year at SHOT Show but the one I know many people are super excited about is the new Stealth Recoil Spring. The Stealth Recoil Spring is a drop-in replacement for your AR15 buffer and buffer spring that eliminates the noise from the spring rubbing on the inside of the buffer tube and helps the rifle function quieter and smoother. They also incorporated a rubber o-ring on the face of the Stealth Recoil Spring that removes any metal on metal contact.

The Stealth Recoil Spring comes in 5 variations.
– SRS-Carbine at about 3.3oz equivalent
– SRS-H at around 3.8oz equivalent
– SRS-H2 at around 4.7oz equivalent
– SRS-9 at around 5.3oz equivalent
– SRS-H3 at around 5.6oz equivalent

Another awesome thing about the new Stealth Recoil Spring is the price. Armaspec has kept the price to a very affordable $79. At that price, if they work as advertised, I’ll be using these in many builds going forward. These are showing out of stock now but sounds like they should be available for purchase very soon at www.Armaspec.com.

I’ve been known to tinker and tweak my guns until I get them running perfect. One of the AR’s I’ve done this the most on is my Quarter Circle 10 9mm. The blowback operation of these 9mm guns creates a ton of energy and gets the BCG moving at a very high rate creating a lot more felt recoil than you would ever guess and can also lead to beating up and breaking parts like bolt catches, etc. I’ve mostly been swapping around different springs and buffers going heavier and heavier.

QuarterCircle10 9mm Buffer Setup

KAK Industry just rolled out a brand new 9mm Configurable Buffer Kit that lets you swap out weights inside the buffer to adjust the overall weight of the buffer in stages up to 10 ounces.

KAK Industry 9mm Configurable Buffer Kit

This new KAK 9mm Configurable Buffer Kit would have really come in handy while I was trying to figure out the perfect buffer weight to get my build running like a sewing machine. It is also perfect for making adjustments for Suppressed, UnSuppressed, Subsonic Rounds, Full Auto, etc. If you’re tweaking your AR9, you definitely need to check out this new 9mm Configurable Buffer Kit from KAK Industry.

If you own an AR, chances are you also own a Magpul stock for it. Magpul makes some amazing stock options for AR’s and now they are adding the new Magpul Enhanced Receiver Extensions & Buffer Components to the family. The new Magpul Enhanced Receiver Extensions & Buffer Components are made to typical high quality standards that we all expect from Magpul and will be a nice compliment to your Magpul or other brand stocks.

The Magpul Enhanced Receiver Extensions will be available in both a 7-position AR15/M4 version and a 10-position SR25/A5 version.

New Frontier Armory is always pumping out awesome new products so it was no surprise to see their new Extra Heavy Blowback 8-Ounce Buffer pop up on their Facebook page. You might be asking…”What is a Blowback Buffer and why does it need to weigh a whopping 8-ounces?”. Well, it all has to do with Pistol Caliber AR’s.

Instead of using a gas system like a Direct Impingement AR to cycle the weapon, most Pistol Caliber AR’s (9mm, .40, .357 Sig, .45, etc) all use Blowback Operation. With a Blowback system their is a ton of energy throwing that BCG back and unless you do something to slow it down, it creates more felt recoil and it can tear things apart or cause excess wear. With Blowback ARs there is no Gas Block to adjust so your only option is to adjust the buffer weight. In comes the Extra Heavy 8-ounce Blowback Buffer from New Frontier Armory.

8-Oz-Buffer-02

In my personal 9mm build I am running a 5.3 ounce H3 buffer. There is still more felt recoil than there needs to be but there aren’t too many buffer options out there that weigh more than the H3 buffer. NFA’s 8oz Blowback Buffer is made of solid Stainless Steel with an overall length of 4″ and would be a great next step in slowing down the BCG so its not slamming back so hard. It’s priced right too at just $39.99.

So, if you’re looking to smooth out your Pistol Caliber AR, the The New Frontier Armory Extra Heavy 8oz Blowback Buffer is definitely an option to look into. You can check them out at www.NewFrontierArmory.com.

Earlier today, Geissele Automatics quietly introduced a new product. The Super 42 Spring and Buffer utilizes 3 separate wires to form the spring which is stronger, more durable and quieter than a traditional AR buffer spring. The buffer comes as an H1 buffer but can be easily upgraded to an H2 or H3 buffer by purchasing the additional Tungsten weights and adding them to the buffer. Technical information and pictures listed below.

Geissele Super 42 Buffer and Spring

The Geissele Super 42 Spring was designed to improve the function and reliability of your AR-15 pattern rifle. Its unique spring design uses three independent strands of wire, just like the German MG42 Machine Gun. This concept acts as a harmonic damper and energy absorber by allowing the springs to flex separately from each other. This flex helps displace excess energy which decreases the chance of spring failure and assists with making your AR-15 more reliable.

Compared to the stock spring, The Geissele Super 42 Spring has a decreased tendency to lose length and force over a given round count. As an added bonus, it removes the annoying spring reverberations (twang) heard and felt by the shooter through the buttstock. The Super 42 Spring has a 15% stronger average return force than the standard buffer spring. This will assist in stripping rounds out of the magazine when operating with a dirty weapon or when using steel-case ammo.

You can purchase the new Geissele Super 42 Spring and Buffer at www.Geissele.com.

If you’ve been paying attention at all to the AR industry you will know that two of the most popular ways to shorten the length of an AR are to either build an AR Pistol or use a PDW stock. MVB Industries, makers of one of the best PDW stocks out there, wanted to give the AR Pistol crowd some love too and has decided to create the MPK or Micro Pistol Kit. The MPK is a standalone version of the compact buffer system used in the ARC PDW Stock kit. It does not accept a stock making it perfectly legal to use on an AR Pistol. Just like its big brother, it allows you to use any mil spec BCG you want and also allows you to shotgun the upper unlike most other compact buffer systems.

For those who like a super compact AR Pistol without the desire to use any of the Pistol Stabilizing Braces/Blades, etc., this is a perfect piece to your puzzle. Comes standard with an H1 buffer but you can choose to upgrade to an H2, H3 or 9mm Buffer as well.

I have a few LR-308 rifles, two of which I have personally built myself. Both of those rifles I wanted to run a standard AR-15 stock and buffer tube on instead of say a .308 PRS. Not only is it nice to have the option to swap stocks with any of my other ARs or to use stocks such as the Magpul UBR but the AR-15 buffer tube is slightly shorter than the AR-10 buffer tube making it a bit more compact. I’ve shown this setup to tons of people and they love it. To do this I’ve used what is called an LR-308 Carbine Buffer and the LR-308 Carbine Spring.

LR-308 Carbine Buffer in RifleMy FALKOR Defense .308 16″ with a normal AR-15 UBR stock installed.

So far so good but I’ve been thinking about increasing the buffer weight to reduce felt recoil a bit and just make it even smoother. My current buffers weigh in at just 3.8 ounces which is pretty light. Most LR-308 Heavy Buffers are close to $100 so last night, when KAK Industry told me about there new LR-308 Carbine Heavy Buffer, I was all ears.

As you may already know, KAK Industry makes all of their parts in house so they not only make sure their Quality Control is top notch but also they can pass on the savings to their customers. The new KAK LR-308 Carbine Heavy Buffer is made from superior 304 grade stainless steel for durability, hardness, and longevity vs the typical 303 grade stainless steel. They also have solid tungsten cores and weigh 5.5 ounces. Whats even more impressive is that they are selling them at just $55 each. At that price it is a no-brainer to upgrade to the heavy buffer.

KAK LR-308 Carbine Heavy Buffer

These are available for purchase now. I literally just ordered some other parts from KAK Industry last night and should have added a couple of these too. If you’ve got an 308 AR or are in the process of building one, and want to run an AR-15 buffer tube on it, my suggestion is to go with this LR-308 Carbine Heavy Buffer and an LR-308 Carbine Buffer Spring. KAK Industry is an awesome small business to show some support to.

Many of us are what our friends at Jerking The Trigger refer to as an “AR Pistolero”. Meaning we have one…or more…AR Pistols in our collection of Firearms. AR Pistols started gaining in popularity when Sig Sauer introduced the SB15 Arm Brace because everyone saw the “possibilities” that it represented. It wasn’t until the ATF gave us their approval (which has since been rescinded, not sure why we even asked for permission) to fire an AR Pistol equipped with an SB15 Arm Brace from the shoulder that their popularity shot through the roof. The SB15 was and still is pretty difficult to install, bulky, heavy and most of all, expensive. Recently KAK Industry secured the distribution rights to the new Shockwave Blade AR Pistol Stabilizer which addresses all of those issues many people had with the SB15. They have also produced a new AR Pistol Buffer Tube called the Shockwave that is designed to work flawlessly with the Blade. We’ve received a kit to try out so below you’ll see pictures of the install and a comparison between the SB15 and Blade kits.

THE KIT AND INSTALLATION

KAK Industry sells all of the new Shockwave components separately and as a Shockwave Package complete kit, which is what we received. The kit includes the new Shockwave AR Pistol Buffer Tube, Castle Nut, End Plate, Buffer, Buffer Spring, the Blade stabilizer and a copy of the Blade approval letter from the ATF.

KAK Shockwave Blade 1

Many AR Pistol buffer tubes just simply tighten down without the use of Castle Nut. The Shockwave Buffer Tube was designed to use any mil spec End Plate and a Castle Nut like your traditional AR. This gives you the most solid lockup and allows you to stake the castle nut in place.

KAK Shockwave Blade 1

As you can see in the picture below, the Shockwave AR Pistol Buffer Tube that KAK Industry designed was made with 12 dimples on the bottom (6 o’clock) of the tube. These dimples allow you to adjust the Blade stabilizer to any of the 12 spots and lock it in place using the set screw retention system.

KAK Shockwave Blade 1

KAK Shockwave Blade 1

KAK Shockwave Blade 1

To lock the Blade in place, find the desired length of pull, turn the AR Pistol upside down and line the set screw channel over the corresponding dimple on the buffer tube, insert the set screw and hand tighten. Once the set screw is in place, the Blade cannot slide forward or back and cannot spin on the tube like the SB15 has been known to do.

KAK Shockwave Blade 1

KAK Shockwave Blade 1

That’s really all there is to installing the KAK Shockwave Kit and Blade. As you can see it looks great on my 7.5″ 300BLK AR Pistol. I assumed there would be some play between the Blade stabilizer and the Shockwave buffer tube but with the use of the set screw there seriously is ZERO movement when I try to wiggle it or spin it. Its pretty impressive.

KAK Shockwave Blade 1

THE BLADE VS THE SB15

You’re probably like me and want to see how the Blade setup compares to an SB15 setup so I went ahead and did that for us.

WEIGHT: The Blade is made of a hard polymer like many AR accessories and is much lighter than the SB15. Combine that with the weight savings of using the new Shockwave Tube over using the popular Super Sig Tube and you’re over a half pound lighter already.

—  KAK Shockwave Buffer Tube:  4.6 ounces
—  Blade AR Pistol Stabilizer:  5 ounces
–  Combined weight:  9.6 ounces

—  KAK Super Sig Tube:  6.3 ounces
—  SIG SB15 Arm Brace:  12.1 ounces
–  Combined weight:  18.4 ounces

ADJUSTMENTS: The Sig SB15 can slide forward and back on a buffer tube but is not as solid the further back you position it. Many companies have tried to address that issue by making different buffer tubes that are longer like the Super Sig Tube (shown below). The Blade and Shockwave Tube however can be adjusted all the way forward towards the receiver for a super compact setup and adjusted all the way back to the last set screw position without compromising its solid lockup and all with the same buffer tube.

KAK Blade Vs SB15 1

SIZE: As we mentioned earlier, the SB15 was always kind of bulky and awkward. The Blade is the exact opposite of that. It is not only light weight but it is compact. If you look at the pictures below you will see a good comparison and that SB15 is much wider than the Blade.

KAK Blade Vs SB15 2

KAK Blade Vs SB15 3

Overall, my initial impression of the KAK Shockwave Kit and Blade AR Stabilizer is very positive. As we all know, the recent ATF decision on how you are allowed to fire an AR Pistol  has made some people less interested in building an AR Pistol. I can’t recommend shoulder firing an AR Pistol but I can recommend “There’s 1/8 of an inch between the stock and my shoulder” and “Don’t shoot with any ATF Agents”. 🙂 Recently the ATF changed their mind again and it is now okay to shoulder an AR Pistol. I was told yesterday that the ATF will be releasing a Q&A letter within the next 30 days that is supposed to even address that the Shockwave Blade is good to go as well so you’ll have something in writing. While I totally agree that there’s nothing quite like owning an actual SBR, there are plenty of good reasons to own an AR Pistol other than to shoulder fire it such as transportation across state lines, carrying loaded in your vehicle in most states with your CCW, avoiding registration with the government as well some states do not allow you to own an SBR.

You probably think I forgot about one of the issues mentioned above with the Sig SB15 setup….the PRICE! As I already mentioned, KAK Industry sells these parts separately or as a kit. The KAK Shockwave Kit sells for just $95 which is less than you’ll pay for an SB15 brace by itself with no buffer tube kit. For more information or to purchase for yourself, head on over to www.KAKIndustry.com.

Looking for a more cost effective alternative to the Sig SB15 Arm Brace for your AR Pistol? Check out the the new KAK Industry “Shockwave” Pistol Buffer Tube which is designed to perfectly interface with the new Shockwave Blade Pistol Stabilizer. The buffer tube features 12 dimples that interact with the Blade’s “anti-rotation / anti-thrust” set screw to adjust position for comfort as well as keeps the Blade from spinning on the buffer tube. Sounds like a great setup and at just $95 for the complete kit (about half the price of a Sig SB15 Arm Brace and Buffer Tube Kit) its a great deal too. Purchases of the complete KAK/Shockwave Kit or the individual parts can be made at www.KAKIndustry.com. Dealer inquiry information  is at the bottom of the press release.

Oxnard, CA (April 6, 2015)—KAK Industry, a leader in firearms component manufacturing, announces that is has secured the exclusive distribution rights to Shockwave Technologies’ line of Blade pistol stabilizers. KAK also reveals that it has developed a custom buffer tube for the Blade.

KAK Shockwave Blade Pistol Buffer Tube Kit 1

The class 3 hard-anodized tube features 12 length-adjustment settings. Its anti-rotation and anti-thrust design mean that the Blade stays put without sliding forward or spinning. The tube is flush with rear of Blade when it’s installed fully forward. When installed fully out, the assembly is incredibly rigid.

KAK Shockwave Blade Pistol Buffer Tube Kit 2

Being of the castle nut design, the KAK Shockwave tube accepts all carbine buffer systems, mil-spec receiver endplates, and aftermarket endplates. Kurt Kosman, president of KAK Industry, remarked, “Our two innovative companies have combined efforts to bring a higher-quality, easier-to-use, more-affordable pistol stabilizing system to the market.”

“Teaming up with KAK Industry is a smart step for our small company,” stated Marty Ewer, owner of Shockwave. “We have a product that is an immediate hit with anybody who sees it. KAK is well-respected in the industry for its quality products and excellent customer service. And they have the resources to really catapult the Blade into the industry spotlight—pairing it with their KAK Shockwave tube and getting the system in front of virtually everybody through its rapidly expanding dealer network.”

KAK Industry will retail Blade pistol stabilizers, KAK Shockwave tubes, and package deals online as well as provide wholesale pricing to Web-based resellers and brick-and-mortar shops. Dealers interested in retailing the Blade should contact KAK Industry through their website (www.kakindustry.com) or by phone at 805-981-4734. Shockwave will also retail Blade pistol stabilizers, KAK Shockwave tubes, and kits through its website and other Internet channels. “Our goal is to make the Blade pistol stabilizer and KAK Shockwave tube 2015’s must-have accessories,” added Kosman. For more information, contact KAK Industry at 805-981-4734 or Shockwave Technologies at 801-815-5178.

DS Arms is proud to release the BUFFERLOC, an improved buffer and carrier insert for the AR15 type rifle that fits all in spec AR15/M16/M4 type rifles.

This invention improves the reliability, durability and takedown of any AR15 type firearm. The BUFFERLOC also addressed an issue common to piston ARs’ carrier tilt. By keeping the bolt carrier in line with the buffer we have essentially eliminated this issue. The spring loaded ball bearing insert fits OEM in spec bolt carriers; this insert has a corresponding buffer machined with a dimple that aligns the carrier. This allows for the lower and upper to be tighter. The bolt and carrier also stays aligned much better. Plus the BUFFERLOC stops the upper from flopping open in disassembly. The added constant forward pressure also aids in the reliability of your rifle especially in fouled conditions.

DSA BUFFERLOC 1

DSA BUFFERLOC 1

DSA BUFFERLOC 1

The Buffer Lock’s Enhancements
1.Allows for the rifle to be opened without flopping open and hitting your body or marring the finish of your rifle.
2.Keeps the bolt group aligned for better reliability and even wear on the bolt head, extractor and barrel extension for less part fatigue and wear.
3.Keeps constant extra pressure on the bolt group ensuring better bolt lock for enhanced reliability especially under fouled and dirty rifle conditions.
4.Reduces carrier tilt seen in many piston designs allowing for less wear on the buffer tube and less friction that can cause reliability issues.
5.Lowers the chance of bolt bounce because of the constant forward pressure on the bolt group, providing enhanced reliability.
6.Enhanced bolt group alignment provides for a better ejection pattern.
7.Improves the fit of the upper and lower receivers.
8.Drop in all AR15/M4 with no permanent modifications to you rifle.

This new product innovation adds durability and reliability to the heart of your AR15 type rifle, at a low cost.
