HammerHead Rifle Tool – Review

A while back I was sent a tool to review.  This tool was the HammerHead Rifle Tool.  While reviewing tools is not nearly as fun as reviewing guns or accessories this was actually something I got to use quite a bit.  I’m always tearing down rifles and putting them back together in different configurations for different photos etc. and the HammerHead Rifle Tool came in handy time after time.

I think its safe to say that the HammerHead Rifle Tool was designed around its very unique Castle Nut Wrench.  This tool features an opening that slides over a bare buffer tube and engages all 4 notches of the castle nut at the same time which really allows you to tighten the Castle Nut.  This is one of my favorite features of this tool.  The fit is very precise which helps you to have confidence that when you do give it a good torque its not going to slip off the Castle Nut as I’ve had happen so many times in the past and sometimes really mess up the threads on the tube.  Lots of my Castle Nuts look as though they’ve been chewed on by a dog with steel teeth.

The tool also features two very smartly designed Flash Hider wrenches.  The angle and position of the cuts made it so getting stubborn old Flash Hiders off and installing new ones a breeze.  Included are wrenches for .750″ and .825″ size FH’s.  The handle doesn’t have as many cutouts at the edge to hurt your hand but I would love to see them do some type of rubber backstrap for a bit of added comfort.  Just my $.02 though and not anything that would deter me from purchasing one.

The HHRT is made of 3/16 thick head treated 1095 steel and is definitely built well.  There is a Titanium version available as well.  There are so many other little features included with this tool.  These include a 1/4, 1/2 and 3/8 torque drive sockets, 5/8 A2 style stock extension tube wrench and a receiver take down / pivot pin punch (or glass breaker in a pinch, LoL)  I honestly didn’t get a ton of use out of these but had I needed them, they would have been there and that is what matters.  One of the only things I feel like is missing is a barrel nut wrench.  I am always swapping out barrels or building a new upper and need a barrel nut wrench quite often.  However, there are things that the HammerHead Rifle Tool does better than any other tool I’ve used such as the Castle Nut and Flash Hider wrenches which is why it will always have a place in my range bag and armorers kit.

NEW!! POF-USA EFP (Enhanced Finger Placement) Drop-In Trigger System

A few weeks ago I informed you guys of a new drop-in trigger system by POF-USA which is pretty sweet.  I like drop-in trigger systems.  They’re very easy and quick to install or swap out and are generally pretty idiot proof (I need that).  We’ve all seen some companies using different trigger styles such as a Straight or Skeletonized design but POF-USA has taken theirs one step further by making the unique design functional.  Their new design is called the EFP or Enhanced Finger Placement trigger system and basically gives you a groove to place your finger when firing which gives you repeatable finger placement.  My college basketball coach always told us if we want to continue getting better as a shooter you have to make sure you practice consistently.  No elbow pointing out on one shot and down on another.  I can see where this would come into play when shooting your rifle as well.  Check it out for yourself.  All of the details, pricing and links are below.

NEW!! BCM Compensator Mod 1 5.56

Bravo Company USA a few new products ahead of SHOT Show 2013 and they look to be high quality pieces as we’ve come to expect from BCM.  One of the products introduced was their much anticipated BCM Comp Mod 1 for 5.56 rifles (7.62 is coming).  The BCM Comp Mod 1 has been in testing for quite a while (by guys such as Travis Haley) to ensure it performs as promised.  The goal with this muzzle device is to be a well rounded comp.  This means it will control recoil, muzzle rise and flash very well instead of focusing on just one or two of the three areas.  The Mod 1 is also an extended version of the Mod 0 which gives it enough length to bring a 14.5″ barrel to 16″ overall when pinned and welded.  I’ve heard some great things about this comp and even have a great video for you to check out below comparing it to a couple other highly regarded muzzle devices on the market.  Take a look for yourself.  These are available for purchase right now at BravoCompanyUSA.com or at my preferred retailer RainierArms.com.

NEW!! Chevron Style AR-15 Front Sight Post from Blitzkrieg Components

The guys over at Blitzkrieg Components have incorporated a Chevron into the AR-15 front sight post giving you a totally different sight picture than you are used to when using iron sights which may come as a welcome change.  This is the first time I’ve seen anything like this but I can’t figure out why as its a pretty cool idea.  I personally like the Chevron style reticle that is used quite often in the ACOG, BCO and other optics and I’m not much of a fan of the standard little black A2 front sight post.  The Blitzkrieg Components AR-15 Chevron Front Sight Post is definitely much different than an A2 FSP and is available in standard black or black with a super high contrast white stripe and will work with any front sight that uses a mil-spec front sight post such as Troy, Magpul, Midwest Industries, YHM and many others.  These are CNC Machined and then coated with GunKote so you know you’re getting a high quality piece.  Like I said, this is the first I’ve seen and have never used anything with this setup but it seems like something I would like to give a try.  Check out the pics and details below.
