Its not often that you hear the words “Awesome new product” being said regarding a set of AR-15 Pivot and Takedown Pins but that’s all anyone says when asked about the new EPP (enhanced pivot pin) and ETP (enhanced takedown pin) from Battle Arms Development. I’ve been playing with a set for a little over a month now and I’ve got to say, these are pretty sweet. The EPS pins were designed to help make them easier to use and also easier to install.
If you’ve built even just one AR-15 lower you know how much of a pain it can be to install the front Pivot Pin. The geniuses at Battle Arms Development redesigned the Pivot Pin in such a way that its now one of the easiest parts of a lower parts kit install. As you’ll see in the pics below, the Pivot Pin has what BAD calls the EZ Guide Channel. The front detent is held in this channel with a strong neodymium magnet. This allows you to just simply insert the detent into the guide whole with the spring and slide the Pivot Pin in place. Simple as that! You’ll also notice the enhanced cutouts to make it easier to grab with your finger tips.
The rear pin, called the Takedown Pin, has also been improved. As with the front Pivot Pin, the Takedown Pin is a bit more low profile than that standard milspec pins but made to be easier to access. By cutting a small flat at about 2 o’clock on the right side of the Takedown Pin it is much easier to grab with your finger tips to pull them completely out after being initially pushed from the left side.
We’ve all used a bullet tip from time to time to push pins through which means pretty much all of us have also seen the bullet tip slip and mark up your receiver. The left side of the new pins feature a dimple to allow the use of a bullet tip or similar item without them slipping. The pins also stick out just a little bit further on this side so you can push the pin head on the right side out a bit further.
Just as the BAD-ASS ambi safety selector is now a mandatory upgrade with every lower I build, I see the Battle Arms Development EPS (Enhanced Pin Set) becoming the same. They really are a great, inexpensive upgrade to your AR-15 that definitely give your gun a feeling of quality and added functionality.
The initial run of the BAD-EPS sold out in literally minutes but I’ve heard from a very reliable source that Rainier Arms will be getting another shipment of BAD-EPS within the next few days which also means Battle Arms Development will probably be restocked soon too. Good news is, both of these retailers are awesome to deal with and are my favorite places to shop. I’ve put the links for both of those online stores below. The Rainier Arms link will allow you to put in your email and be notified as soon as they are back in-stock.
