Phase 5 Weapon Systems Inc, (Phase5WSI) introduced a few new products this year at SHOT Show 2017 but the one that really stood out the most was this awesome new AR buttstock called the UMS or Universal Mini Stock. The Universal Mini Stock is an ultra compact al metal stock that can be attached to virtually any buffer tube out there including standard carbine buffer tubes and many AR Pistol buffer tubes. This could come in really handy for guys running an AR Pistol buffer tube on their AR Pistol while waiting for the tax stamp to come in. Once their stamp comes in and the AR is registered as an SBR you can just add the UMS on instead of needing to remove the pistol buffer tube and install a carbine buffer tube that accepts a stock. Sounds like these are a couple months away from being available for purchase. Check out the video and picture below.

We received an email from UCWRG (Umbrella Corporation Weapons Research Group) the other day that had some good intel in it and wanted to share it with anyone who didn’t receive the email as well.

If you resisted the urge to immediately click over and buy one of the UCWRG Raptor charging handles that were back in-stock and kept reading they included some good info on what changes are going on at UCWRG right now. New UCWRG BCGs will be released soon and they continue to have an issue with getting forgings that are up to their high quality standards.

If you kept reading past that you get to what we all are interested in…UCWRG BILLET!! I am fortunate to own one of the very first UCWRG billet ambi lowers ever made and love it (its featured in a  lot of my SBR photos). UCWRG has never been able to keep up with demand for their products but it appears they may have figured out some of their production dilemmas as they are about to release a NEW billet lower and drumroll….billet upper. Photos and details below.

UCWRG billet lower v2UCWRG Billet Upper

We have a new billet lower design complete and we’re excited to get them out there. While we’d like to have receivers ready before the election, we’re pushing to have them finished before Christmas. Timelines can change, especially after November. Like our first billet design these will include the ADAC for right side bolt catch. We’ve made a few improvements to this lower; the magwell bevel is deeper and by popular request we’ve added a tension screw. You might also notice we’ve switched the logo from the 3D version to our standard deep laser engraved umbrella. These lower receivers still feature our unique magwell geometry and are WEDM cut for an even smoother finish. Billet uppers will follow soon after the lowers are released to complete the pair.

UCWRG SBR 620

So, if you’ve wanted to get on the UCWRG train, your chance might be coming sooner than you realize. I hope this means good things going forward for UCWRG and they do make a phenomenal product. Getting it out to the consumers is the key. You can check out all of the UCWRG products at www.UCWRG.com.

Cross Machine Tool has been teasing us little sneak peeks of a mysterious 9mm PDW for some time but it wasn’t until now that they released information and full pictures of the ARMINI™. The ARMINI™ is a self contained 9mm PDW that takes Glock mags. It features Ambi Controls (something other 9mm AR’s don’t offer), a Non-Reciprocating Forward Side-Charging Handle and an awesome Side Folding Stock that locks into the rail system doubling as a Vertical Forward Grip. It is also extremely lightweight at just 3lb 4oz without the stock or 4lb 2oz with the stock.

The Patent Pending ARMINI™ can be seen at the Northwest Shooting Sports Expo this weekend August 27th -28th in Tacoma, WA. The ARMINI™ takes the term American Sub Gun to a whole new level. Although it may look similar to any other pistol caliber AR, it is not. Everything from the bolt, forward charging handle, receivers, buffer system has been designed around pistol caliber cartridges fed from a standard Glock magazine. Weights- 3lbs 4oz. Pistol configuration. 4lbs 2oz with folding buttstock/forward grip configuration.

The Cross Machine Tool ARMINI™ will be exclusively licensed to Rainier Arms and will be available through the Rainier Arms website or in-store. You’ll also be happy to hear that the ARMINI™ will be sold in a “Pistol” configuration with the stock being sold as an optional product. This makes it so you can purchase your firearm and take it home with you, then submit a Form 1 to SBR it when you’re ready. Production Cross Machine Tool ARMINI’s™ will be available Early 2017.

Over the past few years there has definitely been a huge shift towards AR-15 grips with a more vertical angle for a number of reasons including less wrist fatigue, better shooting posture, etc. Tactical Link, a company well known for very nice slings, sling mounts and other accessories, has just announced their newest product which they are calling the Tactical Link PDW Grip for AR style rifles. The TL PDW Grip looks pretty awesome and features its own distinct texture pattern. Check out the details and pics below.

Tactical Link PDW AR Grip 1

The PDW Grip is a drop-in upgrade for AR style rifles with a more vertical angle, optimized for short LOP (length of pull) personal defense weapons (PDW), bringing the primary hand in closer to the shooter’s body, encouraging a more natural “elbows in” shooting posture which substantially reduces wrist fatigue and is concurrent with modern shooting doctrine.

Made to the finest standards from an extremely durable fiber-reinforced polymer, the PDW Grip is the result of extensive professional shooter feedback and engineering excellence that has produced one of the finest shooting upgrades in the market today. The PDW Grip sports a patent pending design with “zones” of moderately aggressive surface texture to provide unmatched gripping properties for positive weapon control in all environments.

Tactical Link PDW AR Grip 1

The PDW Grip is compatible with most lower receiver mounting platforms (forged or billet) and provides improved biomechanics to better align the trigger finger for a more comfortable and direct rearward trigger pull. Due to its hollow core design (no internal storage), the PDW Grip weighs only 2.1 oz and since the PDW Grip is a drop-in upgrade it is sold without a grip screw.

Shooter Refined Ergonomics: at 14 degrees, the PDW Grip is 235% (19 degrees) more vertical than the standard A2 grip and is the most comfortable and relaxing grip on the marketplace. Places the hand’s flexor muscles on more of the same plane creating a more natural hand position for a more natural hand position with little to no fatigue even during prolonged use.

Optimized Biomechanics: small beavertail backstrap provides enhanced ergonomics and allows the operator’s hand to ride high on the grip for improved recoil management and fire control.

Tactile Gripping Texture: much more aggressive texture than most other grips on the marketplace. “Zones” of more aggressive anti-slip texturing on the palm panels for excellent gripping properties and for positive weapon control in all environments.

Features:
–  All edges rounded for operator comfort
–  Reinforced beaver tail for extra rigidity
–  Aggressive PSP (Pentagonal Surface Projections) Texture on both palm panels for superior weapon control
–  Grooves on the front and rear backstraps for optimal anti-slip surface and excellent gripping properties
–  Accommodates the “seam” commonly found on the beaver tail of forged lower receivers
–  Unique trigger guard design provides a very comfortable, and absolutely the best fit at the trigger guard area of any grip on the market
–  Grip “pulls” the operator’s hand forward into the grip for a more positive grip and better operational control of the weapon
–  Robust design easily exceeds industry standards for quality, strength and durability
–  100% made in USA

The Tactical Link PDW Grip is available now directly from www.TacticalLink.com and will start shipping this week! I’ll definitely be snagging one of these soon to try out on an SBR or AR Pistol.

One of the hottest segments of the gun industry right now is the 9mm AR platform. As a business, if you’re not paying attention to what your customers want, you are missing out. Today, Faxon Firearms announced they have added 4 new 9mm barrels to their already very impressive lineup of barrels. The new barrels will be available in 4.5″, 8.5″, 10.5″ and 16″ lengths with the following specs.

– 4150 CMV
– Button Rifled
– 9mm SAMMI Spec
– 1:10 Twist
– 1/2-28 TPI
– QPQ Nitride

Faxon Firearms QPQ 9mm barrels

Faxon Firearms barrels are some of the best bang-for-your-buck values out there and the new 9mm barrel offerings stay true to that with a price range of just $109-139. If you’re building a new 9mm AR you now have another worthy contender to consider for barrel options. You can view all of the new Faxon Firearms 9mm barrels at www.FaxonFirearms.com.

Yesterday, Wilson Combat revealed that they are entering the 9mm AR market. Pistol Caliber ARs have truly been on fire in the AR industry over the past year. The ones that are most popular (and for good reason) are those that take magazines that are compatible with other handguns. Having a primary and secondary weapon that use the same mags and ammo means I now can carry on style mag on a plate carrier or chest rig, in my car, etc. and know I have both weapons covered. Not to mention pistol caliber ARs are much more accurate at distance than their handgun counterparts.

You might be thinking that Wilson Combat is a little late to the show but to me it looks like they took their time to come up with a product worthy of the Wilson Combat name and some great options. They will be offering 3 models of 9mm ARs. An AR Pistol and SBR with your choice of 8″ 0r 11.3″ barrel or a 14.7″ or 16″ barrel, all with the new 9mm QCOMP muzzle device. You will also get to choose if you want your Wilson Combat AR9 to take Glock, M&P or Baretta 92 mags. Read more about the new offerings in the press release below.

Wilson Combat 9mm AR

The Wilson Combat AR9 9mm pistol caliber carbine was designed from the ground up as the new standard in pistol caliber carbine reliability. The use of common 9mm service pistol magazines makes it an ideal choice for patrol, home defense and cost-effective tactical training.

Wilson Combat engineers have designed three unique AR9 lower receivers with last round bolt hold open that are compatible with the most popular 9mm service pistol magazines from GlockⓇ, BerettaⓇ and S&WⓇ.

Wilson Combat 9mm AR 1

The Wilson Combat AR9 closed-bolt blowback operating system is soft shooting and reliable with a wide variety of 9mm loads and exhibits flawless feeding with all common pistol bullet shapes, including hollowpoint and +P tactical ammunition. The AR9 bolt hold open ensures reliable lockback on empty with your pistol’s factory magazines. The AR9 proprietary bolt carrier group with heavy duty claw extractor and plunger ejector is tuned for exceptional reliability.

Wilson Combat 9mm AR 1

These new billet machined aluminum receiver models also accept standard AR accessories like furniture, triggers, charging handles, buttstocks and optics, and incorporate an integral trigger guard and flared magwell for fast reloading. The AR9 series of carbines has multiple unique patent-pending features that make it unique to the 9mm carbine market.

Wilson Combat 9mm AR 1

The AR9 is also an optimized suppressor host with minimal gas blowback and enhanced accuracy over other designs. Wilson Combat carbon steel match-grade button-rifled 1-10” twist 9mm barrels ensure that the AR9 meets our stringent quality and accuracy requirements.

The Wilson Combat AR9 can be ordered with your choice of GlockⓇ 17, S&WⓇ M&P or BerettaⓇ 92 magazine compatibility and configured as a pistol, carbine or short barreled rifle (all NFA rules apply). The AR9 is offered with your choice of fluted or non-fluted barrels in multiple lengths and various Wilson Combat designed muzzle devices.

Wilson Combat 9mm AR 1

Not simply a converted AR-15, the Wilson Combat AR9 has been specifically designed for superior reliability and maximum accuracy, while retaining the familiar handling and controls of the AR platform. The AR9 is available with your choice of pistol magazine compatibility, barrel length, custom Armor Tuff colors and other accessory options to suit your specific needs.

“We have extensively tested the AR9 and it has exceeded my expectations for reliability and accuracy. When the AR9 is mated with a quality red dot sight and weapon light it is an exceptional training and home defense firearm for shooters of all skill levels.” -Bill Wilson, President of Wilson Combat

KAK Industry does a ton of OEM work for other companies, especially a lot of barrels. Since they’re already machining tons of barrels they decided to start offering a value line of barrels last year which has grown into a very large selection of available barrels. These barrels all have a Melonite finish inside and out are very well made. These are the type of barrels you would see on shelves for $175-200 all day long but because KAK Industry makes these themselves the price is usually closer to $100 and some times less. With the growing popularity of Pistol Caliber ARs, specifically 9mm, it was only a matter of time that KAK added 9mm barrels to the list.

KAK Industry 9mm Value Line Barrels copy

KAK Industry just released 3 new 9mm barrels. These barrels are a 4″, 8″ and 16″. All have a Melonite finish, 1/2×36 threads and 1:10 Twist. As with pretty much all 9mm AR barrels, these are all Straight Blowback which means they do not require a Gas Block or Gas Tube. One of the most impressive points is that they start at just $80. Links and pics below.

I recently built a Quarter Circle 10 9mm AR and am kind of obsessed with the pistol caliber ARs. The one I built uses Glock mags which is cool since I carry a Glock but another reason I like it is that its pretty inexpensive to shoot and is a nice change from the standard AR. This year at SHOT Show, QC10 had some new components to show off including a new KeyMod handguard, a lower that takes MP5 mags and a new Side Charging upper. They announced that they will be creating lowers that take mags for the Sig 226, 229 and M&P and they will also be offering complete guns with pre-orders starting next week .

The new KeyMod hand guards look pretty awesome. They definitely have their own unique style which is a good thing. Too many rails out there look pretty much the same. No ETA or price range yet.

Here’s a look at the Side Charging upper that QC10 partnered up with VLTOR on. This particular one is a prototype but gives you a good idea of what the final model will look like.

Last but definitely not least, that MP5 lower!! QC10 will be growing their list of mag compatible lowers this year to include MP5 mags, Sig 226 and 229 mags and Smith & Wesson M&P mags.

Definitely exciting to see Quarter Circle 10 growing so much and really just killing it with their new products. If you’re interested in building or buying a Pistol Caliber AR, Quarter Circle 10 is the company to watch this year!!

It kind of flew under the radar but the final ruing on ATF41P was issued yesterday and signed by the Attorney General. If you are unfamiliar with ATF41P you can read our earlier article regarding it HERE.

Final Ruling on ATF41P

The final ruling differs a little bit from the original version. The original draft of ATF41P would require all responsible parties (basically anyone names other than a beneficiary) to submit finger prints and photo ID and would also make it so that the use of an NFA Trust required the sign off from your Chief Law Enforcement Officer. The CLEO sign-off was the only thing removed from the final ruling and in fact appears to be completely removed from individual NFA application requirements as well. You can read the entire 248 page ruling HERE.

The removal of CLEO sign-off is the only bright spot in this whole thing as ATF41P will undoubtedly make using an NFA Trust much more time consuming and difficult, although still usable. I can’t imagine having to hire a babysitter to watch my kids as I take my wife or anyone else listed on my NFA Trust with me to go run around and get finger prints, photo ID’s, etc. but that is the reality that you will have to deal with in the future. One thing I am interested in finding out is if you can keep extra copies of your photo IDs and finger prints on file for future use and if so, how often do they need to be updated. That might make things easier to work with.

The Final Rule that was signed yesterday states that ATF41P goes into effect 180 days after it is published in the Federal Register. That means the 180 day countdown could start any time between now and June but I would bet the president will push to have it start sooner than later. Anything submitted prior to the effective date will be grandfathered in. This does give you plenty of time to get an NFA Trust and use it under the current guidelines. I personally have an NFA Trust through Coyote Rifleworks and have used it on an approved SBR and approved Form1 suppressor and two more SBR’s waiting for approval at the ATF. They offer a professionally drafted NFA Trust, with 24 hour turnaround for just $95.

Its important to note that none of the recently proposed ATF rulings or Executive Orders will make anyone any safer, nor are they actually aimed at making anyone safer. This is all about tightening restrictions on law abiding citizen gun owners. Our nations politicians and president want to strip us of our right to keep and bear arms and our right to protect ourselves yet they want to keep their armed body guards close at all times so they can feel safe at night. It continues to be more and more important every single day to exercise your 2nd Amendment right as a citizen of the United States of America.

*Please note I am not a paid representative of Coyote Rifleworks. I have had good success with my NFA Trust from them which is why I tell people about them.

If you are a fan of a good clean looking design on your AR lower but still want some of the nicer high end features, you’re gonna love the new SSA or Smooth Side Ambi lower from Cross Machine Tool. The SSA Lower has all of the same great Ambi features of the Cross Machine Tool UHP15A lower but features a clean look with no corporate branding or Logo.

As you can see below, the CMT SSA lower features a very nice flared mag well, crisp lines, extremely low key brand and serial number text, is compatible with the Battle Arms short throw ambi safety and features a very nice ambi mag release.

It also features a nicely executed ambi bolt release. You can see in this photo that the serial number is placed just below the trigger pin hole for a super clean look.

Cross Machine Tool SSA ambi lower 4

Cross Machine Tool SSA ambi lower 4

Cross Machine Tool is going to offer the new SSA lower at a super short-term intro price of just $199.99 which is an outstanding value for a great looking brand new lower that has all the same features as their extremely popular UHP15A ambi billet lower. I gotta say, with ATF-41P and possible gun control legislation looming right around the corner I have been looking for a new lower to SBR and this fits the bill perfectly. Head on over to www.CMTTAC.com and snag one for yourself at the intro price.
