If you’ve followed AR15NEWS for any decent length of time you’ve probably noticed we build lots of ARs. Some times, as an AR builder, it’s easy to get in a rut and kind of build the same thing over and over again which gets boring. All it takes is a bit of imagination and planning and your next build can be the best one you’ve ever put together. This is the very case with my most recent build.

Believe it or not I had SBR’d this Rainier Arms forged lower well over a year ago but had no idea what I wanted to do with it. Then it came to me and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. From there it was just a matter of time before I had the parts in hand and ready to build.

Lets start out with a few closer shots. From this angle you can see the Rainier Arms ambi safety, Juggernaut Tactical ambi charging handle and Scalarworks OPS (On Point Sights) fixed rear sight.

Rainier Arms SBR Build 1 - Scalarworks OPS Fixed Sights Juggernaut Tactical Ambi Charging Handle - Rainier Arms Ambi Safety

As I mentioned above, this build got started as a Rainier Arms Forged A-DAC lower that I bought and Form 1’d just before the ATF41P effective date. I added a Rainier Arms forged upper and ambi safety, CMC Triggers Flat 3.5lb Trigger and LPK, Superlative Arms Piston Kit, Juggernaut Tactical ambi charging handle, Geissele MK4 rail and Scalarworks OPS Fixed Sights and Low Drag Mount for the Aimpoint T1 and a SureFeed Magazines 20 Round mag.

Rainier Arms SBR Build 2 - CMC Triggers Flat Trigger Geissele SMR MK4 rail Scalarworks OPS Fixed Sights Aimpoint Micro T1 Rainier Arms A-DAC

Of course as a Rainier Arms SBR build I chose to use their 10.5″ .223 Wylde barrel. Covered it with a Geissele MK4 rail, Arisaka Defense 300/IR Series Scout Light and Inline Scout Mount, SureFire SR07 switch, Scalarworks OPS Fixed Front Sight, Magpul vertical grip and Griffin Armament Taper Mount Supresspr Mount. The Superlative Arms Piston Kit gas block is under there somewhere. 😜

Rainier Arms SBR Build - Geissele SMR MK4 - Arisaka Inline Scout Light Mount 300 Series Scalarworks OPS Front Fixed Sight magpul vertical grip Surefire SR07

Here’s another angle of the business end on the new Rainier Arms SBR build. From this angle you can now see how accessible the Superlative Arms Piston Kit gas block is under the rail. This isn’t like many piston kits were you have one or two settings. Its more like a Piston Kit that has a built in fully adjustable gas block so you can really tune it in.

Rainier Arms SBR Build - Superlative Arms - Rainier Arms - Geissele - Scalarworks - Magpul = Arisaka Rainier Arms

This next shot gives you a better idea of how tidy things are on this build. It’s got everything I need and nothing I don’t. The Scalarworks OPS fixed sights and mount for the Aimpoint T1 are absolutely amazing.

Rainier Arms SBR Build - rainier arms = cmc triggers = scalarworks = aimpoint t1 - juggernaut tactical - magpul - geissele

And here it is. Hope you guys enjoyed a pretty detailed look at my new Rainier Arms SBR build. In the end, this SBR turned out even better than I had pictured it but the initial imagination and passion to create another gun is what got it all started. Don’t be in too much of a hurry to just slap together the first complete rifle you can. Take your time with your next build, map it out, think about what would make you smile every time you see it and then build that.

Rainier Arms SBR Build - rainier arms - geissele - cmc triggers - magpul - scalarworks - griffin armament - surefire = superlative arms piston kit - aimpoint juggernaut tactical

Here’s the full run down of parts for this build. If you want to copy it, be my guest. Would make for a great AR Pistol build too.

Already had a chance to get the gas dialed in on the piston kit and man this thing is smooth. Will be getting some range time this week with this gun getting it sighted in. Will let you guys know how it runs soon.

One of the products that has received a ton of buzz this year at SHOT Show is the new CMC Triggers Glock Trigger. It features the pattented and signature CMC Flat Faced Trigger. Everyone I have talked to has absolutely loved this trigger. So far I have not heard any firm release dates or pricing yet but I will be sure to updated you all as soon as I do. If you would like to see more, be sure to follow CMC Triggers on Instagram as well as CMC Triggers on Facebook.

Jen, the General Manager of CMC Triggers, let loose a little secret on her Instagram the other day. On 7/15/16, CMC Triggers will begin offering complete LPKs with your choice of either a Curved or Flat drop-in trigger. I have a bunch of mil-spec trigger groups laying around because I usually upgrade my AR trigger. Being able to just buy the trigger and LPK will be nice as it should equate to a lower overall cost (only one shipping charge, no extra trigger group, etc). I’ll reach out for more information on the CMC Triggers Complete LPK and update you guys as they get closer to releasing them.

**Press Release**

CMC Triggers are undisputed as the finest AR triggers in the world. Precision engineered, hand built, hand tested before they are sent out to market set them apart from other manufacturers.

LanTac USA designed two patented triggers, a curved and a flat bow design. In an effort to maintain our high reputation for exceptional quality products we contacted CMC Triggers to collaborate their propriety manufacturing and engineering processes, ‘Drop In’ trigger with our great looking bow designs.

The sear engagement surfaces are 1-2 RMS (Smoothness, 0 being a mirror finish), this is due to their unique in house manufacturing processes.

CMC Triggers is introducing another trigger option to their growing lineup. CMC currently offers their very popular Single Stage triggers in both Curved and Flat trigger styles and multiple pull weights as well as their new Two Stage triggers in both Curved and Flat trigger styles with your choice of a 1lb. first stage and 3lb. second stage or 2lb. first and second stage for a combined 4lb. pull. All of these options are great for recreational and competition shooters but someone such as a Police Officer on Patrol would want a trigger with a bit heavier pull to help protect against accidental discharge during high stress situations. This is why CMC Triggers is introducing the Duty / Patrol version of their new 2-Stage Trigger in both Curved and Flat styles. The new Duty / Patrol model will offer a 2lb. set (first stage) and a 4lb. release (second stage) giving it a combined 6lb. pull.

CMC Triggers Duty Patrol Trigger

CMC Triggers Duty Patrol Trigger 2

The Duty / Patrol Two-Stage CMC Trigger Group is a completely self contained, 100% drop-in, fire control group upgrade for the AR-15, and AR-10 family of rifles. Trigger pull is factory pre-set, is not user adjustable and comes in 2lb set with 4 lb release trigger weights. An ultra-crisp trigger with no feel of creep prior to hammer release. Trigger has a Glass-Smooth Break with no feel of grittiness. Trigger components are fabricated from 8620 alloy steel and S7 Tool steel, machined to exacting tolerances and finished for the longest service life possible. Minimal Lock-time is designed into the assembly using controlled hammer weight and balance and activated using a Rocket Wire hammer spring. Positive Trigger Reset allows a quick follow up shot on target. Trigger is easy to install following the included instructions.

The new CMC Trigger Duty / Patrol Triggers should be available for purchase very soon. We will be sure to update you guys as soon as we know when / where these new triggers will show up for purchase first. For now you can head on over to CMCTriggers.com and check out their entire line of drop-in triggers.

The guys got to stop by the CMC Triggers booth to chat with Jack about CMC Triggers and what they have coming for 2015. I’m sure all you AK guys are excited about the new CMC Trigger that will be coming out very soon. Check out the video below.

Recently I had the opportunity to have Joint Force Enterprises do a complete Cerakote job on one of my blasters and I wanted to give you guys a look at the results. This is something I had been wanting to do for a long time so I was really excited to finally do it. I sent them a new San Tan Tactical receiver set, a Geissele Automatics SMR MK3 rail, VLTOR EMOD stock, a Magpul MOE K2 grip and a couple awesome HexMag 30 round mags so they could coat them and then I would assemble them into a complete rifle.

I left the color choice up to JFE since they are a lot more experienced with making Black Rifles look awesomely not Black. They chose to do their Grey #5 Cerakote, kind of reminds me of a cement color, and I couldn’t be happier with the color.

JFE SanTan Geissele Build 1

One thing I wasn’t sure about was how well the Mags, Grip and Stock were going to turn out. I know people Cerakote rails and receivers all the time but you don’t see a lot of Cerakoted plastic parts. JFE did such a great job on them. It literally looks like a factory color. They’re not shiny or slippery at all. Just perfect.

JFE SanTan Geissele Build 1

JFE SanTan Geissele Build 1

The coating and shade were extremely consistent across all of the parts that I had them coat for me. There were no missed spots or spots that needed to be touched up, etc. It was absolute perfection. All of the components fit back together without issue. The mags still dropped free and the ambi controls function just as if they came off the shelf at San Tan Tactical.

To finish off this build I used the Joint Force Enterprises 16″ 416R Stainless Steel Match barrel with a 1/7 twist, San Tan Tactical STT-15 Pillar billet set, ADK Enhanced BCG, GLTactical Commander Muzzle Brake, Geissele SMR MK3 rail, Magpul MBUS Pro sights and MOE K2 grip, VLTOR EMOD stock, HexMag HEX30 mags, CMC Triggers 3.5lb Flat Trigger, IWC QD End Plate, Fortis Gas Block and an Aimpoint PRO in an American Defense Mfg QD mount.

If you’re at all looking for a company to add some life to your boring old Black Rifle, be sure to hit up Joint Force Enterprises. They do a fantastic job as you can see. Soon I’ll be doing a review on the JFE 16″ 416R SS 1/7 Match barrel so be on the look out for that article. Below are some links to check out the products I used in this build.

CMC Triggers has really started to become a big name in the AR-15 world. Their triggers are drop-in making them very easy to install, fairly inexpensive for a high performance trigger group and best of all they work great. For the longest time they have only offered Single Stage triggers and their 3.5lb Flat trigger seems to be their most popular model but just yesterday CMC Triggers introduced their new 2-Stage Trigger in both Curved and Flat styles which I’m sure will be another very popular trigger for them.

CMC Triggers 2-Stage Drop-in trigger 1a

The Two-Stage CMC Trigger Group is a completely self contained, 100% drop-in, fire control group upgrade for the AR-15, and AR-10 family of rifles. Trigger pull is factory pre-set, is not user adjustable and comes in 1lb set with 3 lb release trigger weights. Positive Trigger Reset allows a quick follow up shot on target. Trigger is easy to install following the included instructions.

CMC Triggers is offering their initial run of 2-Stage triggers exclusively through REVOLVR. REVOLVR is a gun friendly market place where you are free to sell and buy Guns and Accessories without worrying about having your funds frozen, etc. The best part is they are offering the new 2-Stage trigger at an introductory price of just $185 with FREE SHIPPING. Head on over to www.REVOLVR.com or use the REVOLVR app on your Android phone to snag one for yourself.

KAK Industry is a company we ran across by chance and pretty much fell in love with. They make some really awesome stuff including multiple different types of buffer tubes, barrels, flash hiders, compensators, etc. and the company’s owned and operated by a great guy. These aren’t products they source out and just laser their name on either. They seriously make these right there in their shop. We love to support Americans who are making great products and KAK Industry is just that. Lately I’ve posted about some KAK parts and people have been asking who they were and what the quality was like so I wanted to write something up regarding my personal experience with their parts.

I originally approached Kurt to ask about his Fluted Pistol Buffer Tube that caught my eye in some photos. After talking a bit he asked if I was interested in checking out one of their 300BLK barrels, shoot the heck out of it and send it back when I was done. Of course I was interested so he sent me a barrel, gas tube, gas block and one of their KAK KeyMod rails. I already had a stripped upper laying around and a Smith Enterprise 7.62 Vortex flash hider. All of the parts appeared to be very well spec’d and went together with no issues. Using a Geissele Automatics REACTION ROD I was able to assemble the upper in no time.

KAK 300BLK with SanTan BAD CMC Magpul 2

KAK 300BLK with SanTan BAD CMC Magpul 2

I decided to use my San Tan Tactical STT-15 billet ambi lower with a CMC Triggers Flat 3.5lb drop-in trigger, a Battle Arms Development safety and Magpul furniture to finish off the build. I also used a set of Troy sights and as you can sort of see in the picture above the front sight has a Blitzkrieg Components Chevron FSP in it.

One of the things I’m very careful about with 300BLK is making sure myself, or anyone else shooting my guns, can’t accidentally mistake a mag full of 5.56 for 300BLK or vice versa. That never ends well so I had my buddy Adam over at A Breon Custom make me a PMAG with the 300 BLACKOUT text on the sides and I make sure ONLY 300BLK gets put in the mag. This is especially important if you’re taking another upper or rifle with you.

KAK 300BLK with SanTan BAD CMC Magpul 2

The overall feel of this rifle is great. As with most KeyMod handguards, it’s very smooth so there’s no need for gloves really. It’s also very lightweight. The top 1913 Picatinny rail is removable so you could technically have a completely round smooth tube if you didn’t need that top rail, such as on a build with a red dot and no BUIS, etc.

KAK 300BLK with SanTan BAD CMC Magpul 2

So far I’ve got a few hundred rounds through the rifle with no issues at all. It’s run like a champ even during our harsh Winter we’ve just come out of. With this rifle I wasn’t really going for a long distance build or anything but it has been very accurate and consistent. The 416 Stainless barrel looks as good as it shoots too.  The carbine length gas system has been perfect with no FTE/FTF’s and bolt locks back on empty mag every time. Overall…I’d have to say it’s been awesome.

All I wanted to do with this article is to show you an upper I built using KAK parts that has been very reliable and accurate. It’s not a paid article (Just FYI, I never charge anything for articles). This was written for you guys who have asked what the quality is like and hopefully the next time you’re in the market for some new parts you’ll have another source to check out. As usual, I’ve put links to most of the items used in this article so you can get additional details and even purchase if you desire to.
