KAK Industry manufactures barrels for some of the biggest name retailers out there and every once in a while ends up with a few barrels left over after a large production run. Right now he’s sitting on some 10.5″ 9mm barrels that he produced for PSA and is blowing them out at an amazing price of just $65. If you’re starting a new 9mm build or just want to build an extra cheap upper for your 9mm PCC, this is a no-brainer.
The other day, everyone’s favorite deadbeat Dad (the ATF 😜) decided to change their mind and finally give all of us AR Pistol owners permission to shoulder our SB15 Sig Brace again …. as if any of use were asking for permission in the first place. This came after representatives for SB Tactical, the designers of the SB15 Brace, requested sent a letter to the BATFE asking for them to reconsider. You can read all about that specific change here. This change brought up a lot of confusion as to whether or not it also applied to the many other “Pistol Braces” on the market from other companies such as my personal favorite, the Shockwave Technologies Blade. I’m happy to say that the ATF says it does apply to other braces too. Read below!
Our friends at Shockwave contacted the ATF themselves to get clarification on whether or not the recent reversal also applied to their Blade Pistol Stabilizer and here is what they found out…
I just got off the phone with a very nice gentleman at ATF Tech Branch—who was fielding these calls today. (He was, understandably, very well versed on the subject—and very nice about it even though he’s been on the phone all day, repeating himself ad nauseam.) I identified myself and asked him specifically if the letter that’s making the rounds is limited to one company’s products–or if it applies to all pistol stabilizing braces. He said: “The letter covers all pistol stabilizing braces, including the Shockwave Blade.” So that settles that.
He then gave me a bit of further guidance for our customers:
- By “permanent affixing,” ATF considers that to be adding permanent Loctite to the large set screw that secures the Blade into the dimples in the KAK tube. As long as you don’t red Loctite the set screw in place, ATF considers it to be “temporarily placed” and “perfectly okay to shoulder.” (He didn’t beat around the bush on this topic.)
- “Length of pull”—for lack of a better word regarding pistol braces—begins to enter a “gray area” above 13.5″. Above 13.5″ begins “to enter shoulder stock area.” (His words. I believe this has to do with the “comfortableness” aspect.) On an AR-15, the “length of pull” for the Blade is approximately 13.13″, so no issues there. But if you use the Blade on a firearm that requires a large adapter of some sort, please make sure that you only use the dimples up to the point that you remain below the 13.5″ length. Stay below 13.5″ and according to ATF, it’s okay to shoulder a Shockwave Blade.
This information was posted on the Shockwave Technologies website. You can read it for yourself HERE. While this is just relaying information from one source based on a phone call they had with the ATF, I do know the source and trust that this information is correct. From what I’ve heard, the ATF will be issuing a letter clarifying that this covers all Pistol Braces and not just the SB-15.
If all this AR Pistol talk has got you itching to build another one, check out the KAK Industry SHOCKWAVE kits. They are pretty much exclusively what I use when building an AR Pistol and can’t speak highly enough of them.
I’ve been known to tinker and tweak my guns until I get them running perfect. One of the AR’s I’ve done this the most on is my Quarter Circle 10 9mm. The blowback operation of these 9mm guns creates a ton of energy and gets the BCG moving at a very high rate creating a lot more felt recoil than you would ever guess and can also lead to beating up and breaking parts like bolt catches, etc. I’ve mostly been swapping around different springs and buffers going heavier and heavier.
KAK Industry just rolled out a brand new 9mm Configurable Buffer Kit that lets you swap out weights inside the buffer to adjust the overall weight of the buffer in stages up to 10 ounces.
This new KAK 9mm Configurable Buffer Kit would have really come in handy while I was trying to figure out the perfect buffer weight to get my build running like a sewing machine. It is also perfect for making adjustments for Suppressed, UnSuppressed, Subsonic Rounds, Full Auto, etc. If you’re tweaking your AR9, you definitely need to check out this new 9mm Configurable Buffer Kit from KAK Industry.

KAK Industry does a ton of OEM work for other companies, especially a lot of barrels. Since they’re already machining tons of barrels they decided to start offering a value line of barrels last year which has grown into a very large selection of available barrels. These barrels all have a Melonite finish inside and out are very well made. These are the type of barrels you would see on shelves for $175-200 all day long but because KAK Industry makes these themselves the price is usually closer to $100 and some times less. With the growing popularity of Pistol Caliber ARs, specifically 9mm, it was only a matter of time that KAK added 9mm barrels to the list.
KAK Industry just released 3 new 9mm barrels. These barrels are a 4″, 8″ and 16″. All have a Melonite finish, 1/2×36 threads and 1:10 Twist. As with pretty much all 9mm AR barrels, these are all Straight Blowback which means they do not require a Gas Block or Gas Tube. One of the most impressive points is that they start at just $80. Links and pics below.
KAK Industry 4″ 9mm Melonite Barrel – $80
KAK Industry 8″ 9mm Melonite Barrel – $85
KAK Industry 16″ 9mm Melonite Barrel – $100
I have a few LR-308 rifles, two of which I have personally built myself. Both of those rifles I wanted to run a standard AR-15 stock and buffer tube on instead of say a .308 PRS. Not only is it nice to have the option to swap stocks with any of my other ARs or to use stocks such as the Magpul UBR but the AR-15 buffer tube is slightly shorter than the AR-10 buffer tube making it a bit more compact. I’ve shown this setup to tons of people and they love it. To do this I’ve used what is called an LR-308 Carbine Buffer and the LR-308 Carbine Spring.
My FALKOR Defense .308 16″ with a normal AR-15 UBR stock installed.
So far so good but I’ve been thinking about increasing the buffer weight to reduce felt recoil a bit and just make it even smoother. My current buffers weigh in at just 3.8 ounces which is pretty light. Most LR-308 Heavy Buffers are close to $100 so last night, when KAK Industry told me about there new LR-308 Carbine Heavy Buffer, I was all ears.
As you may already know, KAK Industry makes all of their parts in house so they not only make sure their Quality Control is top notch but also they can pass on the savings to their customers. The new KAK LR-308 Carbine Heavy Buffer is made from superior 304 grade stainless steel for durability, hardness, and longevity vs the typical 303 grade stainless steel. They also have solid tungsten cores and weigh 5.5 ounces. Whats even more impressive is that they are selling them at just $55 each. At that price it is a no-brainer to upgrade to the heavy buffer.
These are available for purchase now. I literally just ordered some other parts from KAK Industry last night and should have added a couple of these too. If you’ve got an 308 AR or are in the process of building one, and want to run an AR-15 buffer tube on it, my suggestion is to go with this LR-308 Carbine Heavy Buffer and an LR-308 Carbine Buffer Spring. KAK Industry is an awesome small business to show some support to.
