If you’ve followed AR15NEWS for any decent length of time you’ve probably noticed we build lots of ARs. Some times, as an AR builder, it’s easy to get in a rut and kind of build the same thing over and over again which gets boring. All it takes is a bit of imagination and planning and your next build can be the best one you’ve ever put together. This is the very case with my most recent build.

Believe it or not I had SBR’d this Rainier Arms forged lower well over a year ago but had no idea what I wanted to do with it. Then it came to me and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. From there it was just a matter of time before I had the parts in hand and ready to build.

Lets start out with a few closer shots. From this angle you can see the Rainier Arms ambi safety, Juggernaut Tactical ambi charging handle and Scalarworks OPS (On Point Sights) fixed rear sight.

Rainier Arms SBR Build 1 - Scalarworks OPS Fixed Sights Juggernaut Tactical Ambi Charging Handle - Rainier Arms Ambi Safety

As I mentioned above, this build got started as a Rainier Arms Forged A-DAC lower that I bought and Form 1’d just before the ATF41P effective date. I added a Rainier Arms forged upper and ambi safety, CMC Triggers Flat 3.5lb Trigger and LPK, Superlative Arms Piston Kit, Juggernaut Tactical ambi charging handle, Geissele MK4 rail and Scalarworks OPS Fixed Sights and Low Drag Mount for the Aimpoint T1 and a SureFeed Magazines 20 Round mag.

Rainier Arms SBR Build 2 - CMC Triggers Flat Trigger Geissele SMR MK4 rail Scalarworks OPS Fixed Sights Aimpoint Micro T1 Rainier Arms A-DAC

Of course as a Rainier Arms SBR build I chose to use their 10.5″ .223 Wylde barrel. Covered it with a Geissele MK4 rail, Arisaka Defense 300/IR Series Scout Light and Inline Scout Mount, SureFire SR07 switch, Scalarworks OPS Fixed Front Sight, Magpul vertical grip and Griffin Armament Taper Mount Supresspr Mount. The Superlative Arms Piston Kit gas block is under there somewhere. 😜

Rainier Arms SBR Build - Geissele SMR MK4 - Arisaka Inline Scout Light Mount 300 Series Scalarworks OPS Front Fixed Sight magpul vertical grip Surefire SR07

Here’s another angle of the business end on the new Rainier Arms SBR build. From this angle you can now see how accessible the Superlative Arms Piston Kit gas block is under the rail. This isn’t like many piston kits were you have one or two settings. Its more like a Piston Kit that has a built in fully adjustable gas block so you can really tune it in.

Rainier Arms SBR Build - Superlative Arms - Rainier Arms - Geissele - Scalarworks - Magpul = Arisaka Rainier Arms

This next shot gives you a better idea of how tidy things are on this build. It’s got everything I need and nothing I don’t. The Scalarworks OPS fixed sights and mount for the Aimpoint T1 are absolutely amazing.

Rainier Arms SBR Build - rainier arms = cmc triggers = scalarworks = aimpoint t1 - juggernaut tactical - magpul - geissele

And here it is. Hope you guys enjoyed a pretty detailed look at my new Rainier Arms SBR build. In the end, this SBR turned out even better than I had pictured it but the initial imagination and passion to create another gun is what got it all started. Don’t be in too much of a hurry to just slap together the first complete rifle you can. Take your time with your next build, map it out, think about what would make you smile every time you see it and then build that.

Rainier Arms SBR Build - rainier arms - geissele - cmc triggers - magpul - scalarworks - griffin armament - surefire = superlative arms piston kit - aimpoint juggernaut tactical

Here’s the full run down of parts for this build. If you want to copy it, be my guest. Would make for a great AR Pistol build too.

Already had a chance to get the gas dialed in on the piston kit and man this thing is smooth. Will be getting some range time this week with this gun getting it sighted in. Will let you guys know how it runs soon.

SCALARWORKS is well know for creating some of the nicest low profile, lightweight optic mounts and just recently put out a teaser for another great looking new product. They have decided to take their expertise from the optic mounts and apply it to a set of fixed front and rear AR-15 sights.

As you can see in the image below the Rear Sight features a dual aperture, a windage adjustment wheel and clamps in place using a cross bolt. The Front Sight features a finger adjustable front sight post for elevation adjustments and also clamps in place using a cross bolt.

The overall sexy looking design of the sights scream “I was made by SCALARWORKS”. I’m sure these will have the same attention to detail, fit and finish that we have come to expect from SCALARWORKS products.

From what I understand these are 2-3 weeks away from being available for purchase. As of right now I have no specs or pricing, just a couple of sneak peek images. As soon as I get more information and pictures I’ll be sure to post it up on the website as well. For now, be sure to follow SCALARWORKS on their Facebook and Instagram pages to see all of the awesome stuff they are coming out with.

I’ve been using the Scalarworks LDM-Micro mount with a T-1 for a while now and it is absolutely awesome. The combination of high quality construction, light weight and easy to use QD system make it my favorite T-1/T-2 mount to date. They told me there were working on some new mounts and low and behold, a few weeks later they are now introducing their new Trijicon MRO QD Mount which according to Scalarworks is the worlds lightest QD model. Check out the press release and pics below.

You may remember that a month or so ago I picked up a Scalarworks LDM/Micro mount for my Aimpoint T-1. One of the biggest claims for the LDM/Micro mount is that it can and will hold zero after being removed and then re-mounted on the weapon. They promised a video showing how well it holds its zero and just yesterday they released it for the first time. I half expected it to be some super short video showing the mount removed and re-mounted, shoot 5 shots and say “We hit the target” but apparently just like the quality level of the LDM/Micro mount, the guys at Scalarworks don’t do anything half way.

The video is actually 11 minutes long and uncut, showing the mount attached and removed a total of 10 times with 10 rounds of .308 being fired between each “Mount/Un-Mount”. With a GoPro in the shooters Point of View you can see that each time the red dot stays right on target. No fancy editing, no magic, no shortcuts, no B.S! At the end of the video they show a zoomed up recap where you can literally see that there was absolutely no shift in the ZERO at all. Kudos to the guys at Scalarworks for not only making an outstanding mount but also putting out a video showing exactly what you can expect. Check out the video below.

A while back I helped introduce the SCALARWORKS LDM/Micro mount for Aimpoint T-1/H-1 red dots. They have been a very popular mount since then and now I’m excited to actually get to try one out for myself. I’ve had the Absolute Co-Witness mount on my SBR for about a week now and wanted to give my initial impressions with a long term review down the road.

The LDM/Micro mount was designed to be a low profile and light weight QD mount. The Absolute Co-Witness mount weighs just 1.25 ounces which is extremely impressive, especially for a QD mount. You can immediately tell when holding it that its quite a bit lighter than most mounts. For instance one of my other favorites, the ADM Micro Mount weighs 3.7 ounces (according to the ADM website) which is about 3 times what the SCALARWORKS LDM/Micro mount weighs.

The fit and finish on the LDM/Micro mount was also very nice. No sharp points or inconsistent anodizing at all. Just a very clean, high quality look. Another thing I noticed was that the anodizing seemed to match up color wise to my Aimpoint T-1 which at a quick glance makes it look like a one-piece Optic/Mount setup. The design itself I think is very attractive.

Scalarworks LDM Micro Mount 1

Installation is very simple. The QD wheel on the LDM/Micro mount features very positive clicks as you turn it that help lock it in place not allowing it to unwind by itself. It also makes it extremely easy to install or remove if needed. Once tightened down by hand it is extremely solid and has zero wobble or movement to it.

Scalarworks LDM Micro Mount 1

The LDM/Micro mount uses a telescoping guided clamp that is the entire length of the mount which should help it hold zero very well and is something they talk about in their marketing. This is one feature I have not had any time to test out but will very soon. Just a matter of shooting a group, removing the mount, re-installing the mount and shooting another group, repeat!

Scalarworks LDM Micro Mount 1

So my initial impressions are very good. I am looking forward to using the LDM/Micro mount full time on my SBR this year. Pricing on the SCALARWORKS LDM/Micro mount is a bit higher than some of the other mounts on the market but I think the quality and lightweight/low drag aspect of it makes up for that very fast.

One thing to note is that the LDM/Micro mount does not come with screws and requires that you use your “factory” screws. If you are like me and bought a T-1 with something other than the factory low mount you will probably need different screws. My T-1 came with the Factory LRP QD mount which has really long screws. Thankfully I had some screws from a different mount that I was able to use. This is not a problem, just something to keep in mind, when purchasing you might want to contact Aimpoint to purchase a new set of screws.

It just so happens that the same week SCALARWORKS sent me my mount, they also sent Rainier Arms a shipment of both Absolute Co-Witness and Lower 1/3 Co-Witness mounts. If you’re looking for a great place to purchase one from, head on over to www.RainierArms.com.

Scalarworks has just released their new LDM with stands for Low Drag Mount for the Aimpoint Micro (T-1 and H-1) optics. The LDM goes against conventional thought regarding optic mounts which says you can’t have Light Weight and Quick Detach at the same time. Weighing in at just 1.33 ounces and featuring a notched thumbwheel with ball detent that won’t back-out under heavy recoil you can now have the best of both worlds. Check out the pictures and press release for the Scalarworks LDM below. Additional information is also available at Scalarworks.com.
