NEW!! Blue Force Gear PLATEminus Ultra Lightweight PC

Posted on April 26th, 2013 by ar15news

I think by now pretty much everyone is familiar with Blue Force Gear’s pattent pending MOLLEminus technology.  Since its introduction in June of last year, Blue Force Gear has created an awesome line of ultra lightweight tactical gear.  Now, after a few months of anticipation since SHOT Show 2013, they have introduced the Blue Force Gear PLATEminus.  PLATEminus is high on quality but extremely low on weight and bulk making it perfect for concealing under a jacket or shirt.  Weighing in at just under .75 lbs this has to be one of the lightest PC’s ever made.

As you can see in the picture below, the PLATEminus features the MOLLEminus technology which is extremely low profile for low visibility when worn under garments but allows you to still attach all of your preferred mag pouches, etc. for other applications.  If you want to keep up with the awesome weight savings and quality you would add some BFG Ten-Speed M4 Mag Pouches but any Molle compatible accessories will work.

The following photos show just how low profile the PLATEminus really is.  This is about as close as you can get to having the life saving benefits of Ballistic Plates without the bulk of a Plate Carrier.

I know most of us are getting used to seeing astronomical prices on anything related to the shooting industry anymore and you’re probably expecting to see some $350-500 price tag on something like this.  **SURPRISE!!**  The price tag on the PLATEminus is just $175 which is not bad at all for this Made In the USA Small Made in USA flag  PC.  Right now BFG is introducing the PLATEminus in MultiCam but it will soon be available in other colors such as Coyote Brown and Gray.  Purchase yours now at BlueForceGear.com or OPTactical.com

A few weeks ago I informed you guys of a new drop-in trigger system by POF-USA which is pretty sweet.  I like drop-in trigger systems.  They’re very easy and quick to install or swap out and are generally pretty idiot proof (I need that).  We’ve all seen some companies using different trigger styles such as a Straight or Skeletonized design but POF-USA has taken theirs one step further by making the unique design functional.  Their new design is called the EFP or Enhanced Finger Placement trigger system and basically gives you a groove to place your finger when firing which gives you repeatable finger placement.  My college basketball coach always told us if we want to continue getting better as a shooter you have to make sure you practice consistently.  No elbow pointing out on one shot and down on another.  I can see where this would come into play when shooting your rifle as well.  Check it out for yourself.  All of the details, pricing and links are below.

POF USA EFP TRIGGER 071 SHOT Show 2013

Our new Enhanced Finger Placement (EFP) trigger introduces a forward design that naturally guides the tip of your finger to the same resting place for a precise, smooth, consistant trigger squeeze every single time. This single-stage, non-adjustable, drop-in trigger boasts a solid 4.5 pound pull weight and is pre-assembled in Hardcoat Anodized aluminum housing (complete with rubber urethane feet) for immediate competition, hunting, and tactical applications right out of the box. Carved from American A2 steel, the Trigger, Disconnect, and Hammer are all Nitride Heat-Treated to 70 Rockwell case hardness for ultimate strength and corrosion resistance.

Includes custom-fit stainless steel KNS Precision™ Anit-walk Pins for both standard AR and POF-USA ambidextrous lower receivers.

SHOT Show 2013: After Action Report From Harris Tactical

Posted on January 18th, 2013 by ar15news

Harris Tactical LogoAs some of you already know my buddy Bobby from Harris Tactical has been at SHOT Show 2013 all week and relaying information and pictures back as he gets it.  The cool part is that he also spent a lot of time speaking with a lot of industry insiders that know a lot about what is going on in the biz relating to topics that we’re all interested in.  AR15 Magazines; Black Rifles, Uppers and Part; Ammunition and Pricing.  The following is his AAR (After Action Report) of sorts.  I think he did a great job compiling everything into one concise post.  Bobby said “Keep in mind that this was my personal experience and perspective. This does NOT apply to every Company in the Industry. Just my contacts, Manufacturers and Distributors.”  Check it out!

The Scoop from the SHOT Show ’13 in Las Vegas, from a personal perspective.

Magazines: Some Companies have re-tooled, stopped the production of other products to meet the demand and focus on Black magazines (not tans or greens). Other colors have been put on the back burner. The demand is extremely higher than the quantity that can be produced right not but some are cranking them out in 3 shifts and some are cautiously molding and developing parts from raw material. Why are some cautiously producing parts from the raw goods (polymer, springs and 30-round bodies)? If a ban on the higher capacity magazines is implemented within a short timeframe, a Company could be stuck with springs and bodies for 30-rounders that they cannot sell. Millions of dollars could go to waste and risk shutting that Company down. With that said, they are being produced but the threat of a ban looms a black cloud overhead.

Black Rifles, Uppers and AR Parts: While some are focused on pounding out as many complete rifles and lowers as they can, some are only taking orders for uppers. If a ban comes down similar to 1994, the “pre-bans” may be grandfathered in. What no one knows, is the extent of this new bill and if it will look similar. Will there be a grandfather clause? No one knows. I can state that some Companies are not even taking orders for complete rifles but some are. The other issue is the availability of parts (i.e. lower parts kits, Bolts and Bolt Carrier Groups <scarce, buffer tubes, barrels etc.) With Companies that are focused on filling P.O.s with complete rifles, you may find it harder to get uppers and individual parts. Backorders range from 60 days to 270 days with some not taking new orders until filled or what may become of the proposed legislation. Pricing has increased for dealers in conjunction with MSRP with some manufacturers up to 10-20%. Distributors are another story and even more so with some retailers.

Ammunition: Supply and demand are not even close. The demand for “popular calibers” of ammunition are overwhelming Manufacturers, Re-Manufacturers, Distributors and Dealers. Brass is scarce and cost has risen with the demand. I spoke with several large Companies and they have record requests for the amount of ammunition on order. The Manufacturers are sending out pallets and truckloads to Distributors as it becomes available. Those same Distributors have every dealer and new dealers requesting larger than normal shipments of ammo. Most Distributors do not have a stock status as inventory is already “allocated” to their pre-orders. Ammunition arrives on docks and is not put into inventory. P.O.s are filled from there and on it’s way back out. That’s not including Government and LE Orders.

Pricing: As far as I know, Manufacturers are not charging more for Magazines. That change could take place at the Distributor and Dealer level based on demand, threats of a ban, limited supply and greed. Uppers and parts are beginning to increase in price but nothing substantial. The wild inflation is taking place on gun auction sites like Gunbroker, with buyers getting into bidding wars over fears of higher prices later and the possibility of not being able to purchase ever again.

When will this let up? No one at the show knew and everything is in the air right now. With that said, please be respectful of manufacturers and dealers who have items on order with quoted or guesstimated ETAs. Some have shut down their phones and cannot respond to all of their emails right now. The amount of emails and phone calls coming in are overwhelming and in the hundreds per day. It is not a good thing, believe me. If a Company is taking no charge pre-orders, please do not continuously request status updates. You can keep your order and hope it is filled within a reasonable timeframe. If not, cancel and find it elsewhere. Some sites may or may not have updated ETAs and status updates listed on them. Some have shut their phones off. If you are paying old retail, that is a great manufacturer or dealer. Do not bust their balls as they are trying to take care of everyone in the manner their order was received. Status updates will only paralyze the staff on the orders that need to be processed and packed. If you do not hear back, they are not ignoring you. There just isn’t enough time in the day to answer the mass of emails. Thank you for listening. BH

SNEAK PEEK!! Mission First Tactical + KRYPTEK = Awesome!

Posted on January 18th, 2013 by ar15news

Mission First Tactical makes some seriously sweet AR15 and AK stocks, grips and rails.  Now their stuff is even more awesome because they just recently announced that they will be offering all of their parts in KRYPTEK Camo, both Highlander and Typhon patterns.  They had some parts on display at SHOT Show 2013 this week and a buddy of mine was there to get a pic for me.  I don’t know about you but I really love the look of these with the KRYPTEK pattern.  Look for these soon at MissionFirstTactical.com.

SNEAK PEEK!! Seekins Precision AR15 Forged Lower Receiver

Posted on January 16th, 2013 by ar15news

Perhaps one of the most well know products that Seekins Precision makes is their very popular and unique billet lower called the SP223.  I personally have an SP223 and quite a few of their rail systems.  The machining is some of the best out there.  One of the things I could never figure out is why they didn’t offer any forged lower receivers like many of the other companies out there that offer billet lowers.  Well, it appears that will be changing soon.  My buddy Zero7One has been at SHOT Show 2013 snapping some pics and look what he found.  On the left is the Seekins Precision SP223 billet lower.  On the right is the new Seekins Precision forged lower receiver.  Based on the all of the finger prints I’m guessing its been getting quite a bit of attention.  I have not release date or pricing information just yet but I will do my best to find out and update you guys.
