The Triggrcon show is just 1 week away and many companies release brand new products there. This year Battle Arms Development is looking to do just that and released a sneak peek of a few of their new products that will be on display at Triggrcon.

First up was their new one piece magazine catch, the first of the many BAD Enhanced LPK (Lower Parts Kit) components. These will be part of an affordable, enhanced LPK. (Note: prototype shown)

Battle Arms Development one piece mag catch

They then showed off the evolution of one of their most popular items that put BAD on the map. In addition to their line of ambi safety selectors, they will soon be offering a single side, one piece Safety Selector featuring a lever similar to the standard lever found on their ambi selectors. These also will be part of an affordable, enhanced LPK. (Note: prototype shown, not final)

Lastly…at least for the moment…was the sneak peek at their new BAD .308 (AR-10) rifle. The BAD556-LW billet set is one of the sexiest receiver sets out there and it looks like they’ve taken many of those design cues and interpreted them into a beautiful AR-10. If you look close you’ll see it also feature a .308 version of their new handguard.

If you are in the Tacoma, Washington area next week be sure to stop by the Triggrcon Show and see these and many more new products in person.

We’ll update you all as soon as these “coming soon” products are available for purchase. Until then you can check out the other awesome products that BAD makes at www.BattleArmsDevelopment.com.

In case you missed it (like I did 🙂 ), Forward Controls just released their new EMR-A which stands for Extended Mag Release – Ambi. The EMR-A comes in two different lengths and replaces your standard magazine catch. The EMR-A has an extended lever that now allows you to easily drop the mag from either side of the rifle. It can be used with your standard mag release button or you can upgrade to the Forward Controls mag release buttons. Check out the pictures and details below then head on over to www.ForwardControlsDesign.com to pick one up for yourself.

Forward Controls EMR-A 1

Forward Controls EMR-A 1

EMR-A is a long in development ambidextrous magazine release for .223 and .308 AR receivers.  Original concept and design was complete in 2015.  After numerous changes to the mag catch geometry and lever shapes,  final design was made into working prototypes in 2017, and first shown in public at Cola Warrior West III.

EMR-A’s an ergonomic ambidextrous magazine release.  The placement of its lever is well thought out to closely mirror the magazine release button on the right side.  The portion immediately below the bolt catch’s lower paddle has a lower profile to avoid interference, heretofore a common drawback of popular ambidextrous mag catches, it is also left smooth.  The serrated length of the lever is split into a shallow V shaped serrations (80%) that conform to the curvature of the user’s finger, and straight serrations (20%) that form a natural index point, and provide additional traction.  We refer to the design as Multi-faceted Control Surface, the difference MCS makes has to be felt to be fully appreciated.

Two lever options are available.  Standard and Extended Reach (about 0.09″ longer than standard).  Force amplification achieved from a lever means the extended reach lever is easier to reach, it’s also easier to press than the standard lever.  For users with small hands or shorter fingers, the extended reach lever makes the EMR-A a joy to use.  For duty and defense ARs, we recommend the standard lever.

A 10.9lb rated magazine catch spring is included with each EMR-A.  We’ve long considered the standard magazine catch spring to be rather weak (rated at 6.85lb), accidental / unintended mag drops can take place if a user slings his weapon, and has gear and pouches on the vest.  A stiffer mag catch spring mitigates these risks, thus it is an integral part in the EMR-A package.

EMR-A is available as a part of bundled products (please see drop down menus for options).  EMR-A’s catch is made from CNC machined 4140 steel and black nitride coated, its lever is 7075 aluminum and Type 3 hard coat anodized.  The roll pin has a shear strength of 800lbs.

Notes:
– EMR-A’s lever pivots on the receiver.
– EMR-A needs to be removed before installing / removing the trigger.  EMR-A is installed and removed in the same manner as a factory mag catch.
– Please wear eye protection while installing EMR, EMR-C, and EMR-A with the 10.9lb mag catch spring!

Incompatibilities:
– Geissele’s Maritime Bolt Catch.  Material from either the top edge of EMR-A’s lever, or the bottom edge of Maritime Bolt Catch’s lower paddle may need to be removed for both to work together.  The close proximity of these two control surfaces makes this combination less than ideal.
– KNS anti-rotation trigger/hammer pins, the connecting bar will interfere with the EMR-A’s operation.
– Battery assist device levers.
– Armalite AR10B (AR10B uses modified M14 magazines)

I’ve always shot my Glocks a lot but ever since I built my Quarter Circle 10 9mm AR I’ve been shooting them even more. Recently I had the opportunity to add the Rainier Arms MARS (Magazine Advanced Release System) ambi mag release in my G17. If you’re thinking….”I shoot right handed so I don’t need an ambi mag release” keep reading.

Rainier Arms MARS ambi mag release glock 1

Rainier Arms MARS ambi mag release glock

Typically ambi controls are designed to benefit left hand shooters but this ambi mag release was actually designed to help right hand shooters. On a Glock, many right handed shooters have to break their grip to reach their thumb far enough to activate the standard mag release consistently. Left handed Glock shooters typically use their Index or Middle finger to use the mag release which is actually better as it does not require that you change your grip on the gun.

The MARS fixes this by adding an ambi mag release on the right side so right handed shooters can now use their Index or Middle finger to release the magazine. They have also extended the mag release button on the left side making it even easier for left handed shooters to access with their Index or Middle finger.

Whether you shoot predominantly Left OR Right hand doesn’t matter with the Rainier Arms MARS. Its a great upgrade for any Glock pistol shooter and has functioned flawlessly in my G17. Rainier Arms has just made these available for sale on their website and are offering them at an introductory price. Regular price is $66.45 but the Intro Price is just $59.95. If you happen to be a Rainier Arms APEX member, your price is just $49.95. Head on over to www.RainierArms.com to snag one at the intro pricing.

Battle Arms Development originally made its name in the AR world by making hands down the best ambi safety available. Over the past few years they have literally exploded with new products including billet receivers, barrels, gas blocks, stocks, buffer tubes and even complete rifles. They have plans to go piece by piece through the AR and not just make their own version but to improve each part. One of their newest products is the BAD-EMMR or Enhanced Modular Magazine Release.

Battle Arms Development BAD-EMMR mag release 1

An extended mag release is not really a new idea but what is new is the design of the BAD-EMMR. Most other extended mag releases just use two screws to hold the extended paddle in in place. If those screws back out the paddle can become loose, wobbly and even fall off. The BAD-EMMR uses a dovetail mounting system, similar to the BAD-CASS ambi safety, and then is secured using a single set screw. The dovetail mount is held to very tight tolerances and takes all of the stress during use instead of putting it on the screws on other designs.

Battle Arms Development BAD-EMMR mag release 1

Battle Arms Development BAD-EMMR mag release 1

Precision CNC Machined for billet 7075-T6 Aluminum in an anodized BLACK finish, the BAD-EMMR features an unique, patent pending three sided dovetail finger pad attachment mechanism that allows for maximum strength, an almost uninterrupted finger pad face for maximum design aesthetics, light weight and low profile design. The interchangeable finger pads offers excellent ergonomic feel and ease of operation without shifting grip position. If you are looking for maximum flexibility, robust design and unparalleled design aesthetics, the BAD-EMMR is the ultimate extended magazine release for you.

The BAD-EMMR is available in Black, Red or Raw interchangeable extended finger pads and will have other design and color options in the future as well. The BAD-EMMR is available for purchase right now and is definitely the best execution of an extended mag release that I have seen to date and at just $21.95, they are pretty affordable too. Check them out at www.BattleArmsDevelopment.com.

Magpul continues to pump out brand new products. Last night they introduced two new products that look pretty awesome.

First up is the new M-LOK Rail Covers Type-1. These rail covers install into M-LOK slots without any adapters or screws. Just snap in. The material is a very heat resistant and offers added grip surface on the rail. Each cover is 9.5″ in length and can cover 6 M-LOK slots and can be cut for different configurations. These come in a 2-pack for $16 at www.Magpul.com

The second new product is the new Enhanced AR Magazine Release. This will replace the mag release button on your rifle with one that has two additional holes in it. Once installed you then bolt on the Enhanced Mag Release button. The button is easily twice the size of standard AR mag release buttons giving you plenty of surface to release your mag. It will also work great for younger shooters or anyone with short fingers who have a hard time reaching the mag release. These are just $20 at www.Magpul.com

Every so often I run across a product that to me seems new but in reality its one I missed a long time ago and just didn’t know it existed. Last month, RECOIL published an online review of the Redi-Catch by Boonie Packer which seemed like a really cool new product but apparently its been around for some time. It allows you to lock back your bolt using the mag release button like the AXTS A-DAC system. If you want AXTS’ A-DAC system you have to buy a specific lower from a company that has paid to use that system. With the Redi-Catch you can virtually retrofit any AR lower to do the same thing using only a different magazine catch bar and an “S” shaped piece of Spring Wire.

Boonie Packer Redi-Catch 1Photo by RECOILWEB.com

I’ve said it probably 100 times before but its probably worth saying again, “I couldn’t care less about an ambi bolt release” from a right handed shooters perspective. When I insert a mag, I slap the paddle with my left hand and the bolt goes home like it should. However, I find a ton of value in the idea of an ambi Bolt HOLD for clearing malfunctions, etc. I really have no need to lock the bolt back while shooting unless I am clearing a malfunction. With an ambi Bolt HOLD a right hand shooter can keep their shooting hand in its firing position. The Redi-Catch covers two steps to clearing a malfunction all in one. By depressing the mag release you are dropping the mag and able to lock the bolt back at the same tim reducing the overall time it takes to clear that malfunction and get back into shooting steel…or bad guys, just depends on the activities for the day.

The Redi-Catch can be purchased for just $34.95 on www.Redi-Mag.com

For weeks…no months now, everyone has been asking “When can I buy that awesome CMT Tactical Ambi lower?”. Well, your wait is now over. Just yesterday CMT Tactical announced that they had opened sales for the new UHP15A ambi receiver. The new UHP15A features an Ambi Mag Release on the left side of the receiver and an Ambi Bolt Release on the right side of the receiver as you can see in the pictures below.

CMT Tactical UHP15A Ambi Lower 2

CMT Tactical UHP15A Ambi Lower 1

I’ve had my set for a while now and they really work great. The bolt release works just as you imagine, press the lever and it releases the bolt. The mag release is gated to protect agains accidental mag release but can still be actuated by the flat of your trigger finger, etc.

CMT Tactical UHP15A Ambi Lower 3

As with all of the different billet receivers CMT Tactical makes, the fit, finish and overall quality of the UHP15A is top tier and features a completely “roll-pin-less” assembly. The UHP15A ambi lowers are now available for purchase as just the UHP15A ambi receiver alone or in Upper and Lower Combo sets and will soon be available through RainierArm.com and AimSurplus.com.

Battle Arms Development has released their new BAD-EMR (Enhanced Magazine Release) just in time for the holidays. The BAD-EMR is a magazine release button that has been machined from a solid piece of 7075-T6 aluminum.

Battle Arms Dev EMR 2

It does not have the typical hole all the way through it like your standard magazine release button does which allows it to stand a bit taller. The face of the BAD-EMR also has been modified with a shallow V-shape that helps center the finger on it as well as horizontal grooves that give you good tactile feedback as well as add a grippier surface for ensuring activation of the mag release. On the back of the BAD-EMR you’ll also notice there are two small machined holes that help make it a bit more light weight.

Battle Arms Dev EMR 1

Precision CNC Machined for billet 7075-T6 Aluminum (not 6061) with an anodized finish, the BAD-EMR features an unique, fully solid “V” shaped button face with horizontal serrations (no thru hole).

The concave V-Groove button face offers excellent ergonomic feel and self-centers the index finger as pressure is applied.  The horizontal, parallel serrations helps slippage in the vertical orientation while minimizing drag in the horizontal direction for finger retraction.

The BAD-EMR also features a lightweight skeletonize back to offset the weight gained from the fully solid button face and slightly increased height to equal the weight of the standard mil-spec magazine release (approxmiately 0.002 lbs).  BAD-EMR is compatible with all lower receivers that accepts mil-spec magazine release buttons.

*Product developed in conjunction with Forward Controls Design

The BAD-EMR is available in 6 different colors and available now for just $6.75 each. Head on over to www.BattleArmsDevelopment.com to purchase a few for yourself and check out all of their awesome new products while you’re there.

In the AR world there are lots of partially ambi receiver sets but that typically just means that they have an ambi bolt release lever. To me thats not really an ambi receiver because you’re still multiple other features that aren’t ambi. I know I’m obviously not the first to feel like that and I can guarantee you that is exactly what SI-Defense was thinking when they started designing their new Full Ambi Billet .308 Receiver Set.

One of the first things you’ll notice is that both sides of the lower receiver look exactly the same. The brain trust at SI-Defense did this on purpose to ensure your body gets used to doing the same exact thing whether you’re shooting with your right or left hand. These mirrored features include an Ambi Mag Release, Ambi Index Finger Grooves and a complete Bolt Catch Assembly on both sides giving you a true Ambi Bolt Hold function which is absolutely priceless when clearing malfunctions (I know you’ve heard me preach about that before).

SI Defense Ambi 308 Billet Set 1

SI Defense Ambi 308 Billet Set 2

Upon further inspection you’ll also see that they have also included a Pivot Pin Spring Housing on both sides of the lower receiver. That’s right! This new receiver set even offers an ambi Pivot Pin and Takedown Pin system which is something I don’t remember ever seeing before. A couple of other neat features are the Quick Release Dust Cover Assembly and a Threaded Forward Assist Pin Hole.

SI Defense Ambi 308 Billet Set 3SI Defense Ambi 308 Billet Set 3

So as you can see, this is a very well thought out design that looks just as good. I’ve also heard there will be an AR-15 version of this available as well so keep an eye out for that. SI-Defense is currently taking pre-orders for this new Ambi .308 Billet Set. Head on over to their brand new website at www.SI-Defense.com or call 406-752-4253 to place your pre-order.

**The receiver set includes dust cover, ambi bolt catch, ambi mag release. Forward assist, takedown pins and ambi selector not included but are available for sale in the Parts and Accessories section of their web store.

I swear I had absolutely nothing to do with picking the components of the new Enhanced Ambi Accessories Combo Kit from Rainier Arms, but if you looked at some of my rifles you probably wouldn’t believe me. The components that make up this kit are some of the most popular accessories for AR-15 builds and not just because they are cool, these are high quality upgrades. The kit includes three accessories that I would say are absolutely the best in their field, the Rainier Arms RAPTOR ambi charging handle, the Battle Arms Development BAD-ASS ambi selector and the Norgon Ambi Catch magazine release. It also includes the Seekins Precision Enhanced Bolt Catch and Billet Mag Release. Instead of buying all of these accessories separately, you can purchase them all together and save yourself about $40 over the usual price. Check it out now at www.RainierArms.com.

Another important thing to mention is that San Tan Tactical has listened to their customers requests and redesigned the Ambi Bolt Release lever on the STT-15 lower. The old lever got the job done but enough people asked to have it beefed up and more low profile and San Tan Tactical was happy to do whatever made their customers happy. The photo below shows the new updated Ambi Bolt Release lever. Be sure to follow the SAN TAN TACTICAL Facebook Page for updates on new products as well.

Our friends over at 21st Century Gunfighter just launched a brand new website. Launching a new website is cool but in and of itself may not be totally “news worthy”. What makes this a big deal is the fact that they also added ammunition to their web store and are now taking pre-orders for their extremely popular M&P Catalyst Extended Mag Release. So basically they now are an additional source to feed your hungry AR with some nice ammo and order an extended mag release for your M&P pistol. Check out the new site at 21CG.us.

Yesterday my buddy Richard Kim posted a quick writeup on Weapon Evolution showing the new Ambi Mag Release and Advanced Safety Trigger Guard made by High Velocity Arms. I have to admit I was pretty excited as there haven’t been many new products lately. It seems like the recent “Panic Buying” really stifled the imaginations of manufacturers as they focus on just simply producing enough of their current offerings to meet demand. Hopefully now that things are slowing down they will be forced to start introducing new products like High Velocity Arms has done.

The High Velocity Arms Ambi Mag Release looks like a pretty solid piece featuring aggressive machining to give you good tactile response when placing your thumb on the mag release. It comes in both Black or NiB finish.

High Velocity Arms ASTG 0

The part that stood out the most was the High Velocity Arms ASTG or Advanced Safety Trigger Guard. It installs just like pretty much any standard trigger guard but features two extensions that wrap around the rear of the magwell. These also feature the same aggressive texture but in this case it is for finger placement when not shooting. We always preach good trigger discipline. Basically, unless you intend to pull the trigger your finger should never touch it. You’ll see a lot of guys stipple the side of their Glock or M&P where their finger goes. Its just a way to know you have your finger in the right spot.  Same here. The ASTG also comes in both Black or NiB finish.

High Velocity Arms ASTG 0

Here is a picture showing both the High Velocity Ambi Mag Release and ASTG installed together.

High Velocity Arms ASTG 620

I’ve got to admit, I do like the look of it. The mag release is something I would definitely use as I already do in other variants. One concern I do have with the Ambi Mag Release is that it wouldn’t allow you to use a BAD Lever which I do use on some of my guns. The only other issue is the cost as it seems to be a bit high but, as Richard pointed out last night as we discussed this, a few years ago no one would have thought we would be replacing our standard triggers and safeties for ACT Triggers and BAD-ASS’s. You be the judge. We would like to know your feedback in a polite and professional manner. Rude comments will be removed.

These products can be purchased at the High Velocity Arms webstore. Once again, thanks to Richard Kim for bringing this new product to our attention.  Make sure you check out his writeup on WeaponEvolution.com for additional information and….STICKMAN PICTURES!!  🙂
