One of the coolest things I’ve seen lately is watching people use Crowdfunding campaigns to realize their dreams of manufacturing a product and having it be a success.  Crowdfunding is the use of a website to take pre-orders at a discounted price on the new product which helps the designer afford the initial cost of manufacturing the product.  We were excited to help the iOCover become a success on KickStarter.  They have now been taken over by Tango Down and are flying off shelves as fast as they can stock them.  The Sharps Bro’s Hellbreaker AR15 lower is another success story.   The latest potential success story is that of the Saffle Industries SI-RIP which is a carbine length Quad Rail with an integrated Bipod.

Saffle SI-RIP 1

The Saffle Industries SI-RIP was designed to look like a standard Carbine Length Drop-In Quad Rail while housing a fully adjustable compact bipod.  The legs of the SI-RIP’s bipod store inside the quad rail until needed at which time the user unlocks the system, pulls the legs out and locks them in place.  In the event you find yourself on an uneven surface each leg can be adjusted by a simple twist to untighten, adjust height and twist to tighten it up again.  The first SI-RIP will be for the AR-15 with the carbine length forend.  As business grows they will expand their product line and will offer the SI-RIP for a wide variety of weapon platforms and sizes including the mid length and rifle length AR15 as well as working on the production for the AK47.

Specs
-   6061 T6 aluminum

-   Hard Coat Anodizing (Type III)
-   Dimensions:  L-6.5xW-2.65xH-2.5
-   Bi-pod legs are .38″ thick (and are very durable)
-   Weight 1.63lbs

Made in USA (Nevada)

Saffle SI-RIP 2

Despite the compact diameter of the bipod legs, they are designed to be very strong.  The owner of Saffle Industries said he has actually stood on top of his AR15 with the legs fully extended.  I don’t look at the SI-RIP as a solution for Snipers or Designated Marksmen.  Instead I see it being used more for those who aren’t going to need a bipod on a daily basis but want to have the ability to set up and make the longer shot if needed at any time.  I think of LEO’s like my own brother that carry AR15′s in the trunk of their cruiser.  They aren’t going to want a normal bipod on their rifle.  Normal bipod’s can get in the way, get caught up on your gear, add a lot of weight and take up valuable rail space on such a short rail that can be better used for items such as lights or grips.  With the SI-RIP you can keep your normal accessory setup in place and at a moments notice, deploy a fully functional bipod as seen in the pictures below.

So here’s how you can help.  Saffle Industries is using a Crowdfunding campaign to fundm the production cost of their new SI-RIP Quadrail by raising $30,000 in just 30 days.  When the SI-RIP comes out it will have a retail price of $199 but right now you can pre-order a SI-RIP through their Crowdfunding campaign on Rockethub.com at a discounted price of $149 for one or $249 for two.  You’re probably asking yourself exactly what I asked.  ”What happens if they don’t meet their funding goal?  Do I get my SI-RIP still or am I out my money?”  The cool part is you are still guaranteed to get your SI-RIP.  I personally spoke with Jason Saffle about this as I wanted to make sure I did the right thing for my readers.  He said they already have everything ready to fill all orders that come in even if they don’t meet their goal.  As with all Crowdfunding campaigns, the success all depends on whether or not the potential backers (you) find this to be a product that you would buy.  So basically, the success of this project is up to you.  There are multiple different levels of funding you can do starting as low as just $5.  Every little bit helps and I think there should be enough interest that we as a group can make this another huge success story.  You can help fund the Saffle Industries SI-RIP on RocketHub.com.

Also, be sure to head on over to the Saffle Industries Facebook page for updates on the progress of this campaign.

Magpul MOE Handguard Bipod Mount for just $16

Posted on April 10th, 2013 by ar15news

If you are like myself or many other AR owners that have built a nice lightweight AR with a Magpul MOE Handguard on it you’re no doubt familiar with Impact Weapons Components and their line of Mount-N-Slot components.  IWC is the premier manufacturer of light mounts, sling attachments, hand stops, etc. designed to work with the MOE Handguard.  One thing that’s been kind of lacking is the ability to efficiently attach a bipod to the MOE handguard.  With bipods you have two options.  Either mount it to a 1913 picatinny rail or to a sling swivel stud.  Instead of buying an adapter for your bipod to mount to a picatinny rail and then buying a small rail section for your MOE handguard you can just buy the new IWC Bipod V2 Mount-N-Slot.  This mount will work with any bipod that mounts to a standard sling swivel stud and as shown in the pics below it allows the bipod to rest against the MOE to give it better stability and strength.  Its a nice low profile design but it also is much more affordable at just $15.95.  Don’t forget to use “AR15NEWS” at checkout to save 5% off of this and the rest of the awesome products IWC makes or carries.  Get  yours at ImpactWeaponsComponents.com.

NEW IMPROVED BIPOD MOUNT-N-SLOT:

WEIGHT REDUCED BY 0.6 OUNCES, TO 1.23 OUNCES TOTAL WEIGHT

HEIGHT REDUCED BY 30%

INCREASED STABILITY AND LOWER PROFILE IMPROVES ACCURACY The higher the bipod is relative to the bore, the more stable the rifle will be on top of it because for the same height off the ground the bipod legs will be wider. Swivel-style bipods should be mounted as “high” as possible so that their swivel axis is as close to the bore axis as possible, which reduces sight/barrel movement for the same amount of rotational correction for leveling.

DIRECT attach design eliminates the need for 2 separate mounts; 1- A bipod mount and 2 – A Picatinny MIL-Spec 1913 Bolt-on Rail Section

Review – MagPod V.1 Prototype

Posted on March 28th, 2012 by ar15news

We were really excited to hear the guys over at MagPod were loaning us one of their V.1 prototypes to play around with for a month.  The MagPod has been a hater magnet ever since it came out so we wanted to give it an unbiased review.  Being that this is a V.1 prototype this review will only focus on the performance and ease of use of the item as its overall design will stay the same but the composition and durability will continue to be tweaked prior to its release.  Continue reading “Review – MagPod V.1 Prototype” »

AR15news - logoEMA TacticalLately I’ve been looking for a new bipod but couldn’t figure out exactly which one I wanted.  I took my time and really searched for the right one for me.  Some of my fellow AR nuts suggested the Harris & UTG bipods.  Those bipods have the springs attached to the outside of the legs and just looked like I could snag them on something or break them easily.  I checked out the Tango Down Advanced Combat Bipod which looked like my style but would run me about $200.  VLTOR also makes a nice Side Mounted Bipod called a ModPod that would also run me about $200.  GG&G also make exactly what I was looking for but, of course Continue reading “New AR-15 Accessory! – EMA Tactical BPO Bipod / Product Review” »
