If you’ve ever owned a Pistol Caliber AR you know very well that fine tuning them is all about the buffer system as most Pistol Caliber ARs are blowback so there is no gas block or gas tube at all to adjust. However, fine tuning them is a must. I was absolutely surprised by the amount of felt recoil the first time I shot my 9mm PCC. Pistol Caliber Carbines are known for breaking a Bolt Catch and increasing internal wear if you don’t figure out how to slow down the Bolt. Most people end up guessing and buying a heavy buffer of any number of ounces or will buy a number of them and try them all (that’s what I did LoL). Quarter Circle 10, the industry leader and standard for Pistol Caliber ARs, has just introduced their new Adjustable Pistol Buffer Assembly which looks like a real winner.

Ever since I SBR’d my QC10 9mm AR I have wanted to put a Battle Arms VERT PDW Stock on it. I have the VERT PDW Stock on one of my other SBR’s and it truly is one of the only PDW stocks that I feel can be used on just about any AR, even full size rifles because of its integrated cheek rest. The only holdback was that the standard buffer. While it works great with 5.56 and 300BLK, it wasn’t designed to work with a 9mm AR’s. While similar to a standard AR, a 9mm AR is definitely a fickle beast. After some months of testing, fine tuning and tweaking, Battle Arms is ready to release their new 9mm Buffer for the VERT PDW Stock.

Battle Arms 9mm VERT PDW Stock 1

The new Battle Arms 9mm Buffer weighs 5.7 ounces which is a little lighter than you might expect to run on your 9mm AR (I have run as high as 10 ounce buffers) but what makes this different and  is their patented, Recoil Reducing, Dual Spring Buffer Design which will help soften the recoil impulse and smooth things out considerably.

Battle Arms 9mm VERT PDW Stock 2

The BAD VERT 9mm PDW Buffer will be sold as an upgrade item for those of us who already have a VERT stock in hand and will also available as a complete 9mm VERT PDW Stock System as well.

No matter how you slice it, this is an awesome upgrade to one of, if not THE best PDW stocks on the market. I have a BAD VERT PDW Stock that has been waiting for this day and soon will get put to work on the 9mm QC10 SBR. You can buy the buffer or the complete stock system at the links below. Sometimes the simpler the better and that appears to be the case with the new Wilson Combat Q-Comp. Usually when you hear the name “Wilson Combat” you instantly think of their $2,500 rifles or $3,500+ handguns but in their Q-Comp throws all that aside and not only is a simple product but a very effective and affordable one too.

The Wilson Combat Q-Comp has been designed by our compensator experts to greatly enhance recoil control in rapid fire without the harsh blast and flash that other AR-15 muzzle devices exhibit.

The Q-Comp is a hybrid AR-15 brake/compensator that has been tuned to minimize side-blast and concussion compared to other muzzle devices on the market. This exclusive Wilson Combat design displays almost zero muzzle flash yet retains excellent vertical and rearward recoil reduction with all calibers.

While it seems like EVERYONE is building a 9mm AR right now, its taken AR component manufactures a little bit longer to jump on board as well. Thankfully Fortis Manufacturing has jumped in with a 9mm version of their extremely popular muzzle brake. What makes this such an awesome new product is not just that it looks pretty amazing but it also interfaces with the Fortis QD CONTROL blast shield (sold separately). This is sure to be a great performing muzzle device for your 9mm AR and is available in both 1/2×28 and 1/2×36 TPI which are the two most common thread patterns for 9mm AR barrels. Check out the information below, then head on over to www.FortisMfg.com and pick one up for yourself.

Fortis Mfg 9mm Muzzle Brake and CONTROL

The performance of the Fortis 556 Muzzle Brake is unmatched and the rise is non-existent, now replicated for your 9MM AR needs (also compatible with the Control Shield).

While the trend of 9MM AR’s continue to rise, we wanted to give those enthusiasts a product that carried the Fortis theme of design and functionality. So we took the 556 Muzzle Brake and utilized its aesthetics while getting the same performance for the 9MM that we do in our 556.

Available only in Nitride, in 1/2×28 and 1/2×36 TPI, now available for purchase on FortisMFG.com.

New Frontier Armory is always pumping out awesome new products so it was no surprise to see their new Extra Heavy Blowback 8-Ounce Buffer pop up on their Facebook page. You might be asking…”What is a Blowback Buffer and why does it need to weigh a whopping 8-ounces?”. Well, it all has to do with Pistol Caliber AR’s.

Instead of using a gas system like a Direct Impingement AR to cycle the weapon, most Pistol Caliber AR’s (9mm, .40, .357 Sig, .45, etc) all use Blowback Operation. With a Blowback system their is a ton of energy throwing that BCG back and unless you do something to slow it down, it creates more felt recoil and it can tear things apart or cause excess wear. With Blowback ARs there is no Gas Block to adjust so your only option is to adjust the buffer weight. In comes the Extra Heavy 8-ounce Blowback Buffer from New Frontier Armory.

8-Oz-Buffer-02

In my personal 9mm build I am running a 5.3 ounce H3 buffer. There is still more felt recoil than there needs to be but there aren’t too many buffer options out there that weigh more than the H3 buffer. NFA’s 8oz Blowback Buffer is made of solid Stainless Steel with an overall length of 4″ and would be a great next step in slowing down the BCG so its not slamming back so hard. It’s priced right too at just $39.99.

So, if you’re looking to smooth out your Pistol Caliber AR, the The New Frontier Armory Extra Heavy 8oz Blowback Buffer is definitely an option to look into. You can check them out at www.NewFrontierArmory.com.

CORE Rifle Systems just released their new CORE Muzzle Brake and I have to admit, it looks pretty awesome. It features a dual chamber design to reduce recoil and 4 vertical ports to compensate for muzzle rise which will help with faster follow up shots. Right now they are offering a special introductory price. Normal price is $89.99 but they are intro’ing them at just $59.99 for a short time. You can watch a video of it in action here: https://www.facebook.com/118762944846071/videos/1103136773075345/

When looking to reduce felt recoil in an AR-15 (there isn’t a ton but there’s enough), one route you could go is to go with a lightweight Bolt Carrier Group. Lightweight BCGs are largely used in competition rifles like those used 3-Gun where the lighter the recoil the better for fast followup shots, etc. Faxon Firearms is already very well know for their successful ARAK-21 self contained piston upper and massive selection of barrels but noticed some issues with other lightweight BCGs and decided to make their own. Check out the all new Faxon Firearms “Gunner” Ultra-Light BCG and intro pricing info below.

When looking at lightweight bolt carrier groups, we were unsatisfied with what the market had to offer. Seeing a capability gap, we set out to create a bolt carrier group that could live up to the GUNNER name with no compromise in strength or function. We set specifications that would allow no compromise:

1. Lightest Weight Possible (8.32 Ounces Complete, 6.24 Ounces Carrier & Key Only)
2. MIL-SPEC Materials & Finishes or Better!
3. Forward Assist Serrations
4. Compatible with Dust Covers
5. Maintains Full-Auto Trip Sear for full-auto and the new multi-stage trigger functionality
6. Looks Amazing

faxon-gunner-bcg-ultra-light-bolt-carrier-groups-ff556bcgcnitride-lw-by-faxon-firearms-140

Matching our barrels, we selected the QPQ method of Salt Bath Nitride for all the carriers components. By coating all parts, the carrier’s natural slickness is increased markedly requiring less gas and pressure to operate. Further, the QPQ SBN process seals components against corrosion while making them fantastically wear resistant.

You may have notices that 9mm ARs are all the rage right now. There are lots of companies making accessories and parts for 9mm ARs but one thing that hasn’t caught up is the availability of 9mm muzzle brakes and compensators. I just happened to run across this one the other day. It is the new MD9 9mm muzzle brake from Cloudbreak.

Cloudbreak MD9 9mm Muzzle brake 1Cloudbreak MD9 9mm Muzzle brake 1

This muzzle brake reminds me more of a compensator with all of the porting on it but from what I’ve read there is a noticeable reduction in recoil as well. It has a Black Ion Nitride finish, machined from 416 Stainless Steel and also has the 1/2×28 thread pitch which is the same as some of the most popular 9mm barrels such as the ones by Quarter Circle 10.

Cloudbreak MD9 9mm Muzzle brake 1

The new Cloudbreak MD9 9mm muzzle brake is available now through Rainier Arms for just $59.95 which seems like a pretty reasonable price point.

**Edit: I just found out if you need one that has the 1/2×36 thread pitch they are available through Pantel Tactical.**

The new FALKOR Defense Blast Cap muzzle devices are now available for purchase. The Blast Cap is designed to push the blast forward away from the shooter while reducing muzzle rise and recoil. They are available in both .223/5.56 and in a version specifically tuned for 300 Blackout. Check out the pics and details below.

FALKOR Defense Blast Cap 2

The Falkor Defense “Blast Cap” muzzle brake was designed specifically for short barreled rifles to both direct the concussion away from the shooter whilst eliminating muzzle travel including rise and recoil.  Constructed from heat treated steel alloy and aircraft grade aluminum, the device also features interchangeable caps that will be released at a later date.

I have a few LR-308 rifles, two of which I have personally built myself. Both of those rifles I wanted to run a standard AR-15 stock and buffer tube on instead of say a .308 PRS. Not only is it nice to have the option to swap stocks with any of my other ARs or to use stocks such as the Magpul UBR but the AR-15 buffer tube is slightly shorter than the AR-10 buffer tube making it a bit more compact. I’ve shown this setup to tons of people and they love it. To do this I’ve used what is called an LR-308 Carbine Buffer and the LR-308 Carbine Spring.

LR-308 Carbine Buffer in RifleMy FALKOR Defense .308 16″ with a normal AR-15 UBR stock installed.

So far so good but I’ve been thinking about increasing the buffer weight to reduce felt recoil a bit and just make it even smoother. My current buffers weigh in at just 3.8 ounces which is pretty light. Most LR-308 Heavy Buffers are close to $100 so last night, when KAK Industry told me about there new LR-308 Carbine Heavy Buffer, I was all ears.

As you may already know, KAK Industry makes all of their parts in house so they not only make sure their Quality Control is top notch but also they can pass on the savings to their customers. The new KAK LR-308 Carbine Heavy Buffer is made from superior 304 grade stainless steel for durability, hardness, and longevity vs the typical 303 grade stainless steel. They also have solid tungsten cores and weigh 5.5 ounces. Whats even more impressive is that they are selling them at just $55 each. At that price it is a no-brainer to upgrade to the heavy buffer.

KAK LR-308 Carbine Heavy Buffer

These are available for purchase now. I literally just ordered some other parts from KAK Industry last night and should have added a couple of these too. If you’ve got an 308 AR or are in the process of building one, and want to run an AR-15 buffer tube on it, my suggestion is to go with this LR-308 Carbine Heavy Buffer and an LR-308 Carbine Buffer Spring. KAK Industry is an awesome small business to show some support to.

A while back we wrote a post to tell you guys about the new Fortis Mfg Muzzle Brake and CONTROL blast diffuser were coming soon. Just this week they finally released the first retail units for both products and they look pretty freaking sweet.

Fortis Mfg Control Blast Diffuser 4

The new Fortis Mfg Muzzle Brake plays many roles for your AR. Not only does it look like a work of art but it also uses the two rearward angled side ports to reduce felt recoil, the two top facing ports help control muzzle rise and it also acts as the mounting interface between your rifle and the new Fortis Mfg CONTROL blast diffuser.

Fortis Mfg Muzzle Brake 1Fortis Mfg Muzzle Brake 1

The Fortis Mfg CONTROL blast diffuser is a quick detach muzzle shroud designed to force the blast and noise from the muzzle brake forward away from the shooter and those next to them. The Quick Detach system is very simple and easy to use. The lines of ports at 2 o’clock and 10 o’clock help to reduce muzzle rise even while the CONTROL is attached.

Fortis Mfg Control Blast Diffuser 1Fortis Mfg Control Blast Diffuser 2Fortis Mfg Control Blast Diffuser 2

Here are a couple of things I really like about what Fortis Mfg has done with the new CONTROL blast diffuser and Muzzle Brakes. 1. The Muzzle Brake and CONTROL are sold separately making it possible for you to buy any number of the new muzzle brakes and just one CONTROL to swap around all of them as needed which saves you money. 2. The Fortis CONTROL QD mounting system is being shared freely with other muzzle device manufactures in the industry so that they can create a multitude of muzzle devices that can interface with the new CONTROL blast diffuser. Rainier Arms was the first to adopt the new mounting tech for their new muzzle brake and others will be soon as well.

If you’ve been waiting, wait no more. The new Fortis Mfg muzzle brake and CONTROL blast diffuser are now available at an introductory price at www.RainierArms.com.
